Levitation force relaxation in YBCO superconductors

Physica C: Superconductivity, 2004
Abstract A modified helium gas closed cycle cryogenic system has been used to measure the zero field cooling levitation force relaxation as a function of temperature (40–85 K) for three different sizes of YBCO superconducting sample. The time range in our relaxation measurements was from 3 s to 1000 s.

Modeling of magnetization and levitation force of HTS tapes in magnetic fields of complex configurations

Superconductors Science and Technology, 2019
In many levitation systems superconductors are used in combination with permanent magnets. In this paper we considered three types of magnetic assemblies that are most often used: with magnets oriented in one direction, oppositely oriented magnets and ...

Force measurements for levitated bulk superconductors

Superconductor Science and Technology, 2000
We have developed a force measurement system which enables us to directly measure the levitation force of levitated bulk superconductors. Experimental data of the levitation forces were compared with the results of numerical simulation based on the levitation model that we deduced in our previous paper.

Magnetic levitation forces—finite conductor size

Journal of Applied Physics, 1973
Magnetic levitation is attracting attention as a practical noncontact suspension system for high-speed guided ground transport. Detailed mathematical analysis of magnetic lift and drag forces for nonidealized practical configurations is, however, difficult.

Influence of the critical current on the levitation force of stacks of coated conductor superconducting tapes

Superconductors Science and Technology, 2019
The majority of superconducting levitation systems are based on bulk superconductors. However, recently, stacks of coated conductor superconducting tapes (CC-tapes) have shown a proven potential to act as an alternative to superconducting bulks as ...

Simulation and Experiment Research on the Dynamic Levitation Force of Bulk Superconductors Under a Varying External Magnetic Field

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2019
In practical high-temperature superconducting (HTS) maglev systems, it was found that the levitation force of the onboard bulk superconductors may attenuate gradually under the inhomogeneous magnetic field.

Electromagnetic levitation forces

British Journal of Applied Physics, 1965
The theorem that a generator, when connected to a system capable of doing mechanical work, supplies during the motion an amount of energy of which half appears as an increase in the energy of the system and half is used in the performance of mechanical work, is applied to prove that the force in any direction x between a coil carrying an alternating ...

A calculation method for levitating force of ac magnetic levitation system

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1982
With the progress in the linear motor, various kinds of magnetic levitating devices, most of them driven by dc current, are under study. In this paper, a simple magnetic levitating device driven by ac current is proposed. In this device, the cylindrical air gap is excited by an ac current and a thin nonmagnetic conducting ring is put into the air gap ...

Levitation force measurement on a switchable track for superconducting levitation systems

Superconductor Science and Technology, 2018
Whereas current superconducting levitation systems typically use permanent magnetic tracks, additional switchable components are required to realize fast turnouts or crossings. Therefore, a prototype for a switchable track segment was realized by a combination of permanent magnets with a superconducting coil, which enables switching of the magnetic ...

Force measurements for levitated bulk superconductors

Physica C: Superconductivity, 2001
We have directly measured the levitation force of levitated bulk superconductors. The levitation force had a hysteresis loop during increasing and decreasing field processes. Such a hysteretic behavior can be explained in terms of hysteretic penetration of external field to the superconductor.
