Deep marine diagenesis, offshore Hawaii and Enewetak, with implications for older carbonates

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 9, Issue 3, Page 526-572, May 2023., 2023
Cenozoic limestones from Hawaii and Enewetak were studied to characterise diagenesis in deep sea water. Aragonite dissolution, alteration of HMC, and precipitation of lower‐Mg calcite cements occurred in deep sea water (>300 m) undersaturated for aragonite, but supersaturated for LMC.
