Deep Learning for Vanishing Point Detection Using an Inverse Gnomonic Projection

open access: yes, 2017
We present a novel approach for vanishing point detection from uncalibrated monocular images. In contrast to state-of-the-art, we make no a priori assumptions about the observed scene.

In the Footsteps of Sheep Herds: The Neonative Xeranthemum cylindraceum Has No Impact but Indicates Ruderalisation of Overgrazed Pastures in the New Range

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 28, Issue 4, October/December 2025.
We examined the potential negative impact of a range‐expanding neonative annual plant species, Xeranthemum cylindraceum, in grasslands of its new range. Our results preclude the negative impact on grassland biodiversity and confirm the reactive nature of this species. Mass presence of this unpalatable species in pastures indicates overuse, which should

The history of the American image: confluences and heterochronies in the aesthetic and cultural project of José Lezama Lima

open access: yesEstudios de Teoría Literaria, 2016
In this paper we analyze the concept of image as a condenser of multiple, heterogeneous temporalities exposed on the notion of “eras imaginarias” forged by the Cuban writer Jose Lezama Lima.

Polarization squeezing of light by single passage through an atomic vapor

open access: yes, 2011
We have studied relative-intensity fluctuations for a variable set of orthogonal elliptic polarization components of a linearly polarized laser beam traversing a resonant $^{87}$Rb vapor cell.

Southern Brazilian Grassland Diversity: Anti‐Disturbance Regimes Are Not Ideal and Grazing Maintains Plant Diversity

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 28, Issue 4, October/December 2025.
Long‐term grazing management strongly shapes grassland plant diversity and composition in southern Brazil. After 12 years of experimental management, grazing exclusion led to taller vegetation and lower diversity, while continuous and deferred grazing maintained higher diversity and balanced life‐form composition.

Evaluating Seasonal vs. Spatial Extrapolation for Cetacean Distribution Models in the California Current

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 41, Issue 4, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Species distribution models (SDMs) have been developed for multiple cetacean species within the California Current Ecosystem (CCE) from shipboard survey data collected by the Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) in summer and fall, thus limiting the ability to inform management decisions in cool seasons when abundance and distribution ...

Counterexample-Guided Data Augmentation

open access: yes, 2018
We present a novel framework for augmenting data sets for machine learning based on counterexamples. Counterexamples are misclassified examples that have important properties for retraining and improving the model. Key components of our framework include

Design of Spiro‐Substituted Phthalocyanine Hole‐Selective Layers for Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 9, Issue 17, September 2025.
We designed zinc phthalocyanines annelated with Spiro‐core substituent at the β position as molecular semiconductors. The synergistic design rationalizes the energy level and imparts solubility in phthalocyanines. We uncover the impact of molecular design engineering in the fabrication of perovskite solar cells by employing them as a hole‐selective ...
