Dipole‐Engineered Conductive Additives for Ultrastable Interphase Evolution in High‐Areal‐Capacity Silicon Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In the work reported herein, dipole‐engineered sulfonated carbon nanofibers enable conductive additives to actively regulate interphase formation in silicon anodes. Polar sulfonyl groups guide electrolyte decomposition to form a compact LiF‐rich interphase while promoting robust integration with silicon.

Vanadium Oxide Nanosheets for Flexible Dendrite‐Free Hybrid Aluminium‐Lithium‐Ion Batteries with Excellent Cycling Performance

open access: yes, 2019
Aluminum (Al)-ion batteries can be an attractive alternative to lithium-ion batteries because of low costs, high volumetric capacities and dendrite-free formation when Al is used as anode.

Tuning Separator Chemistry: Improving Zn Anode Compatibility via Functionalized Chitin Nanofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanochitin derived from waste shrimp shells is used to fabricate separators for aqueous zinc batteries. By tuning the density of amine and carboxylic surface groups, water mobility at the separator interface is controlled, promoting uniform zinc deposition, suppressing dendrite growth, and enabling exceptional cycling stability exceeding 2000 h ...

Beyond Lithium-Ion: Lithium- Sulphur Batteries for Space?

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2017
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are established as the state of the art [1] rechargeable batteries for terrestrial and space applications today since the launch of Proba 1 satellite in 2001.

Interplay Between Phase Evolution, Fe Migration, and Oxygen Redox in O3‐Type NaxFeyMn1−yO2 Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Why do Na‐ion battery cathodes, that are compositionally closely related, follow different structural paths during battery operation? This work shows how Fe content controls when iron atoms migrate from their original sites. Early migration locks the layers and blocks key phase transitions, whereas delayed migration permits fuller structural ...

Li-ion battery safety

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of this thesis was two folded: Numerically compute the combustion properties of the discharge materials from lithium-ion batteries, and experimentally measure the properties, at a test rig, by overheating lithium-ion batteries and igniting the vented mixture, and using a high-speed camera, pressure sensor and temperature senor to capture, and ...

Vacuum Formed Spherical Triboelectric Architecture Overcoming Direction Constraints for 3D‐Omnidirectional Ultrasonic Energy Receiving

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
First vacuum formed spherical triboelectric converter for 3D‐omnidirectional ultrasonic energy receiving, with configurable DC or pulse outputs for versatile applications. ABSTRACT Ultrasound‐driven triboelectric nanogenerators (UD‐TENGs) have emerged as promising ultrasonic energy converters for underwater and biomedical applications.

A HIGH PRECISION STUDY OF LI-ION BATTERIES

open access: yes, 2012
Undesired reactions in Li-ion batteries, which lead to capacity loss, can consume or produce charge at either the positive or negative electrode. For example, the formation and repair of the solid electrolyte interphase consumes Li+ and e- at the ...

Spectroscopic Investigation of Polysulfide Redox Evolution in Catholyte Solutions for Potassium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Potassium–sulfur batteries are investigated using UV–vis spectroscopy to track the evolution of potassium polysulfide species at elevated temperature. The study reveals sulfur radical anions as key intermediates and shows how solvent composition and cell design influence polysulfide stability, redox behavior, and cycling performance, providing insights
