Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Friction constructing a capacity-compensation interlayer enabled the stable lithium metal batteries

open access: yesJournal of Materiomics
The high-energy-density lithium metal batteries (LMBs) is expected to drive the development of the low-altitude economy and electro vehicles. Nevertheless, the practical application of lithium anodes is hampered by well-known issues of unstable ...

Aluminum doping improves the energetics of lithium, sodium, and magnesium storage in silicon

open access: yes, 2014
While Si is an effective insertion type anode for Li-ion batteries, crystalline Si has been shown to be unsuitable for Na and Mg storage due, in particular, to insufficient binding strength.

Highly Reversible Lithium Storage in Nanostructured Silicon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Anode materials of nanostructured silicon have been prepared by physical vapor deposition and characterized using electrochemical methods. The electrodes were prepared in thin-film form as nanocrystalline particles (12 nm mean diameter) and as continuous

Microstructure Design of Steel‐Spinel Composites via Spark Plasma Sintering Process

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study illustrates how spark plasma sintering at reduced oxygen partial pressure enables controlled formation of steel‐spinel composites through tailored redox reactions and cation exchange. Comparison of the MgO–Fe2O3, steel–(MgO+Cr2O3), and steel–(MgO+Fe2O3) systems shows how oxygen activity and interface chemistry govern spinel formation, phase ...

Imidazolium-based Ionic Liquid Electrolytes with Bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide Anions for Lithium Metal Anodes: Effects of Salt Concentration and Solvent Dilution

open access: yesElectrochemistry
Ionic liquids (ILs) are attractive electrolytes for Li metal batteries because of their non-volatility, non-flammability, and wide electrochemical stability window.

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.
