The Bankruptcy of Liberalism and Conservatism

open access: yesPolitical Science Quarterly, 2013
THIS ARTICLE ARGUES THAT THE FREQUENTLY EMPLOYED DISTINCTION between the public and the private realms is becoming increasingly obsolete because the two realms are intertwined, move in tandem, and seem to be codetermined. It follows that many of the statements most commonly made in public discourse about the government and the market, or the state and ...

Balance sheet versus earnings conservatism in Europe. [PDF]

open access: yes
In this study we extend prior research on the international analysis of accounting conservatism (Joos and Lang, 1994; Ball et al., 2000; Giner and Rees, 2001), by examining the level of accounting conservatism across eight European countries (United ...

The Conservatism Scale and Theologically Conservative Pastors

open access: yes, 1982
Previous research with clergymen indicates a positive relationship between theological position (conservative-liberal) and the related construct dimension for authoritarianism, dogmatism, and conservatism.

Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysts with Trinuclear, Mixed‐Valence Iron Motifs on Electronically Aligned Carbon Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trinuclear iron oxo‐bridged catalytic ensembles stabilized by aspartic‐acid‐derived carbon dots provide an effective platform for alkaline oxygen evolution. Mixed‐valence charge balancing, inner‐sphere charge transport, and work‐function alignment within the N/O‐rich carbon framework promote cooperative Fe‐site chemistry and efficient OER ...

The economic determinants of conditional conservatism. [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the economic determinants of conditional conservatism. Consistent with prior literature, we find that contracting induces only conditional conservatism and litigation induces both conditional and unconditional conservatism.

Multidimensional‐Encoded High‐Fidelity Spectrometers With a Floating‐Base Bipolar Junction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A floating‐base bipolar junction photodetector enables multidimensional spectral encoding through synergistic gate‐ and drain‐bias modulation of interfacial barrier matching. The resulting complementary spectral responses form a diverse, weakly correlated response matrix, enabling robust and high‐fidelity spectral reconstruction even at sub‐nanoampere ...

Consistent estimation of conditional conservatism [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we propose an econometric model that presents three advantages in relation to the Basu model: (1) it is robust to the aggregation problem; that is, we prove that the Basu model produces inconsistent estimations of conditional conservatism ...

1T‐to‐2H Phase Evolution During Epitaxial Growth of Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
During MOCVD growth of MoS2 and WSe2, a transient metallic 1T phase emerges in early, edge‐rich, chalcogen‐deficient domains and declines as the films ultimately coalesce as 2H material. Together, experiments and ReaxFF simulations link domain size, edge stoichiometry, and vacancies to this evolution.

Women’s Role in the Accounting Profession: A Comparative Study between Italy and Romania

open access: yesAdministrative Sciences, 2018
Historically, in most countries, the accounting profession has always been male-dominated. Liberal professions such as lawyers, engineers, architects and doctors share the common trait of conservatism.
