The concentric bodies of lichenized fungi

Archiv fr Mikrobiologie, 1972
1. Concentric bodies have been detected in the mycobionts of at least forty-three species of lichens, and their presence in two non-lichenized fungi is reported here for the first time. The structure of the bodies appears to be closely similar in all species. 2.

Systematics of Lichenized Fungi

1984
By means of mathematical analysis of lobe division during thallus enlargement in Xanthoria elegans and Diploioia eanesoens, a new morphological parameter was found: the ratio lobe length to width (HILL 1984). PENTECOST and ROSE (1985) calculated the contribution of apothecia to thallus weight and compared the energy contents of both apothecia and ...

Algae, Fungi, and Lichens on Inselbergs

2000
Bare calcareous and quartzitic rock surfaces in arid and semiarid regions, as well as dry spots like inselbergs in humid savannas, are generally inhabited by a complex community of actinomycetes, cyanobacteria, algae, dematiaceous fungi [= Hyphomycetes (imperfect fungi) having darkcolored hyphae and/or spores], and lichens (Danin and Garty 1983; Eppard

Systematics, Morphology, and Ecology of Lichenized Fungi

1989
The general problem in systematics is the selection and evaluation of characters. Lichen taxonomy still mosuy depends on anatomical, morphological, and chemical characteristics. For example, ascus structure, spore type, and chemistry show that some species of Pertusaria are better classified within the genus Ochrolechia (Brodo 1988).

The Treatment of Lichens in "The Genera of Fungi"

The Bryologist, 1910
Dr. Clements' volume "The Genera of Fungi "1 is well known to mycologists, but little has been stated regarding the treatment of lichens in this work. Though few botanists favor the distribution of lichens made by Dr. Clements, excluding the class Lichenes, this disposition is the only one that seems consistent with the principles of classification ...
