Fractional Boundary Layer Flow: Lie Symmetry Analysis and Numerical Solution

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we present a fractional version of the Sakiadis flow described by a nonlinear two-point fractional boundary value problem on a semi-infinite interval, in terms of the Caputo derivative.

Lie Symmetry Analysis of Modified Diffusive Predator-prey Competition System of Equations

open access: yes, 2020
In this paper, a nonlinear fourth order evolution equation is investigated by the Lie symmetry analysis approach. All the geometric vector fields and the Lie groups of the evolution equation are obtained.

Template‐Confined Synthesis of Shape‐Engineered Single‐Crystal Gold Microplates in Lithographically‐Defined Polymeric Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐crystal gold microplates are high‐performance nanomaterials with an impressive wafer‐based application space. Progress has, however, been tempered by an inability to exert synthetic control over microplate size, shape, and positioning. In this work, control over these parameters is demonstrated using a seed‐mediated synthesis that both confines ...

Lie algebra symmetry analysis of the Helfrich and Willmore surface shape equations

open access: yes, 2014
We compute the Lie symmetry algebra of the equation of Helfrich surfaces and we show that it is the algebra of conformal vector fields of R2. We also show that in the particular case of the Willmore surfaces we have to add the homothety vector field of ...

Glissile Interphase Boundaries Enable Collective Phase Switching in Epitaxial Polar Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triple point is identified in the phase diagram of low‐symmetry epitaxial BiFeO3 thin film along with an extended regime of phase competition associated with a flattened energy landscape. The electromechanical response is shown to be governed by correlated interphase‐boundary motion, including scale‐free avalanche dynamics characteristic of systems ...

Complex Connections between Symmetry and Singularity Analysis

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications
In this paper, it is noted that three apparently disparate areas of mathematics—singularity analysis, complex symmetry analysis and the distributional representation of special functions—have a basic commonality in the underlying methods used.

Applications of dynamical systems with symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis examines the application of symmetric dynamical systems theory to two areas in applied mathematics: weakly coupled oscillators with symmetry, and bifurcations in flame front equations.

Unraveling MXene Oxidation Mechanisms Under Realistic Gas Environments by In Situ Gas‐Cell TEM

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Real‐time visualization of MXene degradation reveals a fundamental oxidation mechanism under oxygen and moisture environments. Using in situ gas‐cell electron microscopy, this study demonstrates that oxygen degradation drives a thermodynamically controlled high‐temperature transformation into mixed rutile/anatase phases.

Lie symmetry analysis and exact explicit solutions for general Burgers’ equation

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, the Lie symmetry analysis is performed for the general Burgers’ equation. The exact solutions and similarity reductions generated from the symmetry transformations are provided.
