Front‐Loading Zn2+ via Lattice‐Breathing‐Enabled Early‐Stage Co‐Intercalation for Ultrastable Zn‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces In3+ into δ‐MnO2 to create a lattice breathing effect via a dynamic strain field, which establishes efficient ″ polaronic superhighways″ for charge transport. We uncover an unconventional two‐stage (Zn2+/H+ co‐insertion followed by Zn2+‐dominant) mechanism that enables reversible structural adjustment. This approach simultaneously

Covers Story: Hold the Front Page

open access: yes
Dr Matt Davies, senior lecturer in English Language at the University of Chester, looks through the Cheshire Life archive to see how the front page has changed in the decades since it first rolled off the presses in the 1930s (May 2024, pp.25-32).

Biomimetic Nanoplatform for Dual Target Nano‐Metabolic Therapy in Diabetes‐Associated Biofilm Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic GOx/Arg‐loaded nanoplatform produces nitric oxide through an in situ catalytic cascade reaction, enabling dual‐target metabolic regulation in diabetes‐associated biofilm infections. Bacterial metabolism is disrupted, and macrophage immunometabolism is reprogrammed, resulting in biofilm eradication, immune restoration, and enhanced ...

Storm on the Horizon: An Inmate Re-authors His Story

open access: yesForum: Qualitative Social Research, 2010
This paper presents the writing of an inmate, Whispers, who participated in a writing project taught by the author at San Quentin State Prison. The inmate was a student in a class called Write Your Life and it was in that class that he wrote Storm on the

Life of SYN : a story of the digital generation

open access: yes, 2011
SYN (Student Youth Network) is a media organisation run by people between the ages of 12 and 26. In this ‘coming of age story’, Ellie Rennie follows the SYNners as they build Australia’s most unusual media empire against enormous odds. Over the course of

Psychological Stress Associated Bile Acid Reprogramming Promotes Hepatocellular Carcinoma Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Depression is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for chronic diseases, yet its biological impact on cancer remains unclear. Using data from more than 490 000 participants across three international cohorts, we show that depression significantly increases the risk of liver cancer.

Experience and Interpretation: Emotion as Revealed in Narration

open access: yesJournal of Ethnology and Folkloristics, 2011
I discuss in this article some key narratives of women I interviewed in Ingria 1992–1993. The narratives of those women were about dramatic stages of their lives during the World War II.

Multiscale Spatial Fusion Feature‐Driven Characterization of Gastric Cancer Invasive Margins: A Multicenter Cohort Study for Preoperative Accurate Differentiation Between T4a and T4b Subtypes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a multi‐dimensional vision Transformer‐based model, GAVR, to accurately distinguish gastric cancer T4a/b stages preoperatively. Validated across multi‐center cohorts, it achieves excellent performance and significantly improves radiologists’ diagnostic accuracy, offering a promising tool for clinical decision‐making.

Multiscale Modelling of the Electrocatalysis of Microenzymes: Insights Into the Performance of Microperoxidase at an Aqueous/Graphene Interface and Their Exploitation to Improve Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel multiscale MD/DFT framework to elucidate microenzyme adsorption and electron transfer is reported. This method reveals distinct configurations for microperoxidase‐11 on graphene and those best suited for electron transfer. Rate constants align with the limited experimental data, establishing this framework as a tool for optimizing microenzyme ...
