Considerations of design for life support systems

Advances in Space Research, 2003
During the design phase for construction of artificial ecosystems, the following considerations are important. (1) Influences on living things in the ecosystem, such as lifestyles and physiological functions caused by stresses due to environmental changes.

Life support systems

2018
Abstract There is an astonishing variety and abundance of microscopic life that underpins the ecology of natural waters. The aquatic microbiome—made up of viruses, bacteria, archaea, and microbial eukaryotes—is central to the healthy functioning of lake ecosystems and their responses to environmental change.

Life Support Systems

2011
It is certainly true that robots like the Mars Pathfinder, Spirit, and Opportunity have shown that a lot of scientific information about a planet’s surface can be gathered by sending robots instead of people. As well, it can be done significantly cheaper. But imagine that you wanted to go to Paris.

In Spacecraft Life Support Systems

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper discusses the development problems of the long life hydraulic pump sets based on electrical brushless D.C. motors with hydraulic static supports. The first test results of the new brushless D.C. motors for long life hydraulic pump sets developed in NPP VNIIEM to use on the space station “Alpha” are ...

The Maintenance of a Life Support Atmosphere in Sealed Systems

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1965
Abstract Two feasibility studies described here explored the conditions necessary for a life support system suitable for a manned space vehicle. White rats were placed in a closed system with a recirculating air loop. Solid potassium superoxide was used as a combination oxygen generator and carbon dioxide absorber, and potassium hydroxide was used as a

Microbiological characterization of a regenerative life support system

Advances in Space Research, 1994
A Variable Pressure Plant Growth Chamber (VPGC), at the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) ground-based Regenerative Life Support Systems (RLSS) test bed, was used to produce crops of soil-grown lettuce. The crops and chamber were analyzed for microbiological diversity during lettuce growth and after harvest.

Quality of life in the evaluation of community support systems

Evaluation and Program Planning, 1982
As a result of the authors' experience in conducting an evaluation of the community support system (CSS) program in New York State, they have identified five reasons for focusing on quality of life (QOL) as a desired outcome for programs for the chronically ill.

Data Life Support System

2020
Much like the circulatory system within the human body, data has become the lifeblood of modern business feeding the vital organs of organizations (see Figure 3-1). These vital organs need to be continually fed with good quality data and be physically protected from harm:

[Habitability and life support systems].

Kosmicheskaia biologiia i aviakosmicheskaia meditsina, 1989
This paper discusses various aspects of space vehicle habitability and life support systems. It describes variations in the chemical and microbial composition of an enclosed atmosphere during prolonged real and simulated flights. The paper gives a detailed description of life support systems and environmental investigations onboard the Mir station.
