Numerical Investigation of Propeller Skew Effect on Cavitation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science, 2019
This paper addresses the skew effects (a significant geometric property) of marine propellers on cavitation phenomenon numerically. DTMB 4381, 4382, 4383 and 4384 model propellers with different skew values have been chosen to investigate the cavity ...

Multi-scale freeform surface texture filtering using a mesh relaxation scheme

open access: yes, 2013
Surface filtering algorithms using Fourier, Gaussian, wavelets, etc, are well-established for simple Euclidean geometries. However, these filtration techniques cannot be applied to today's complex freeform surfaces, which have non-Euclidean geometries ...

Design and Experiment of In Situ Soil-Lifting Shovel for Direct-Injection Straw Deep-Burial Machine

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
A direct-injection straw deep-burial method was proposed to address the issues of insufficient depth and compaction during the process of straw deep burial. Based on the working principle of oblique cutting, an in situ soil-lifting shovel is designed for

Lift-connected surface codes

open access: yesQuantum Science and Technology
AbstractWe use the recently introduced lifted product to construct a family of quantum low density parity check codes (QLDPC codes). The codes we obtain can be viewed as stacks of surface codes that are interconnected, leading to the name lift-connected surface (LCS) codes.

Evaluation of MEMS Structures with Directional Characteristics Based on FRAT and Lifting Wavelet

open access: yes, 2015
Steps and grooves, which have typical directional characteristic, are two main functional structures of MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems). This paper proposes a method for analysis and evaluation of MEMS steps and grooves based on finite radon ...

Arithmetic moduli and lifting of Enriques surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesJournal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik (Crelles Journal), 2013
Abstract We construct the moduli space of Enriques surfaces in positive characteristic and eventually over the integers, and determine its local and global structure. As an application, we show lifting of Enriques surfaces to characteristic zero. The key observation is that the canonical double cover of an Enriques surface is birational

Fatigue Assessment Using Surface EMG on Lifting Motions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Caregivers experience back pain due to concentrated load on the lumbar region. It is essential to understand the correct working posture because the wrong nursing posture causes the concentrated load to the lower back.

People Lifting Patterns—A Reference Dataset for Practitioners

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Many health professionals do not use correct person transfer techniques in their daily practice. This results in damage to the paraspinal musculature over time, resulting in lower back pain and injuries.

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.
