Intra-articular Reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1985In this article, the author provides criteria for the recommendation of surgical intervention in acute and chronic anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency and describes various intra-articular procedures for both conditions. Intra-articular reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament with a vascularized patellar tendon graft is described in ...

Mechanical Analysis of Extra-Articular Knee Ligaments. Part One: Native knee ligaments
The Knee, 2017The aim of this study was to provide a characterization of the tensile properties of the medial collateral ligament (MCL), lateral collateral ligament (LCL), anterolateral ligament (ALL) and medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL). Our hypothesis was that extra-articular knee ligaments are heterogeneous in nature and possess distinct material properties ...

Intra-articular Reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1984An anatomic model was developed to test different types of intra-articular anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. Four cadaver knees were tested in an identical fashion. In each knee 12 different positions were tested. The results indicate that over-the-top repair is not suitable for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction from a mechanical ...

A multiplicity of surgical operations have been developed in an attempt to achieve satisfactory function after ACL repair. None of these procedures have been able to duplicate the fiber organization, attachment site anatomy, vascularity, or function of the ACL.

Articular cartilage lesions in ankles with lateral ligament injury
The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 1993To investigate intraarticular lesions producing persist ent postoperative pain, we arthroscopically examined 31 ankles in 31 patients (15 women and 16 men) with lateral ligament injury. The patients ranged in age from 15 to 33 years, with a mean of 20 years. Nine patients were freshly injured, and 22 patients had chronic inju ries.

A three-dimensional constitutive model for the stress relaxation of articular ligaments
Biomechanics and Modeling in Mechanobiology, 2013A new nonlinear constitutive model for the three-dimensional stress relaxation of articular ligaments is proposed. The model accounts for finite strains, anisotropy, and strain-dependent stress relaxation behavior exhibited by these ligaments. The model parameters are identified using published uniaxial stress-stretch and stress relaxation data on ...

Intra-Articular Analgesia after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2007In this double-blind prospective study, pain after reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was evaluated using the visual analogue scale (VAS). Comparisons were made between patients administered an intra-articular analgesic mixture of adrenaline, morphine and bupivacaine (Marcaine) and those without it, between patients surgically ...

[Articular ligament rupture of the ankle joint].
Aktuelle Traumatologie, 1984We report about 142 cases of acute injuries of the fibular ligament lesions of the ankle joint treated by surgery. In 2.1% no rupture was found. A follow-up examination and X-ray examination was done after several month for 75 of these patients, and a good result without any sign of instability of the ankle joint was achieved in 84% to 86.7 ...

Intrinsic Innervation of the Rat Knee Joint Articular Capsule and Ligaments
Cells Tissues Organs, 1991In spite of the practical importance of having a detailed knowledge of knee joint innervation to understand the pathophysiologic aspects, little information is now available concerning the density and pattern of the nerve fibres which are distributed to it.

Articular cartilage homeostasis after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, 1998AbstractSeveral factors may be responsible for osteoarthritis after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The detrimental effect of the surgical technique may explain part of the progression of the pathologic process. In this study, the effect of ACL reconstruction on articular cartilage was investigated by measuring proteoglycan fragments ...
