Varicocele, dilated veins in the pampiniform plexus, is frequently a contributing factor in male infertility. We performed outpatient laparoscopic varix ligation in 14 patients (5 bilaterally) with clinically evident varices and persistent oligospermia and/or asthenospermia. The spermatic artery was identified and preserved in all but 1 varix ligation.

Cloning DNA typically involves the joining of target DNAs with vector constructs by enzymatic ligation. A commonly used enzyme for this reaction is bacteriophage T4 DNA ligase, which requires ATP as the energy source to catalyze the otherwise unfavorable formation of a phosphodiester bond.

Peptide Ligation at High Dilution via Reductive Diselenide-Selenoester Ligation.
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2019Peptide ligation chemistry has revolutionized protein science by providing access to homogeneously modified peptides and proteins. However, lipidated polypeptides and integral membrane proteins - an important class of biomolecules - remain enormously ...

Serine/Threonine Ligation: Origin, Mechanistic Aspects, and Applications.
Accounts of Chemical Research, 2018Synthetic proteins are expected to go beyond the boundary of recombinant DNA expression systems by being flexibly installed with site-specific natural or unnatural modification structures during synthesis.

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1962
Because of the increasing incidence of radical surgery of the head and neck, there have been questions raised regarding the sequelae of ligating the common carotid artery to control hemorrhage. This procedure may have dire consequences, with death and neurologic complications.

Portal vein ligation (PVL) is a standard procedure for achieving resectability in patients with an inadequate future remnant liver (FRL) prior to planning subsequent major hepatectomy. Its role in inducing FRL hypertrophy prior to major liver resection is clear [1].

Synthesis of proteins by native chemical ligation.
Science, 1994A simple technique has been devised that allows the direct synthesis of native backbone proteins of moderate size. Chemoselective reaction of two unprotected peptide segments gives an initial thioester-linked species.

The model of cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) in rodents has been used extensively to investigate the clinical settings of sepsis and septic shock. This model produces a hyperdynamic, hypermetabolic state that can lead to a hypodynamic, hypometabolic stage, and eventual death. Blood cultures are positive for enteric organisms very early after CLP. The
