Reversible Phase‐Change‐Induced Transparency Switching and Dynamic Thermal Regulation Gel for Energy‐Efficient Smart Windows

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
The phase transition process imparts shape‐stable gels with the capability of reversible transparency modulation and temperature‐responsive heat storage and release. When applied to smart windows, this property ensures the maintenance of thermal energy within the human thermal comfort zone, thereby facilitating indoor energy conservation.

Chapter A Robotic Method to Insert Batt Insulation into Light-Frame Wood Wall for Panel Prefabrications

open access: yes, 2023
Currently, industrial robot arms are trending in prefabricated building construction; however, a notable gap exists in established automated processes and related research specifically for the insertion of batt thermal insulation. The current method for accomplishing this task relies on manual insertion, which is labour-intensive for the workers and ...

Developing a macroecology for human‐altered ecosystems

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Although anthropogenically‐induced ecological disruptions are fundamentally important in defining ecosystem properties, they are largely overlooked by macroecological theory. Anthropogenic disruptions and their effects are generally not comparable to one another, nor to disturbances that are part of natural disturbance regimes.

Impact of Out-of-Plane Stiffness of the Diaphragm on Deflection of Wood Light-Frame Shear Walls

open access: yes, 2019
The in-plane rigidity of light frame diaphragms has been investigated by researchers due to the importance of this subsystem regarding lateral force distribution between the lateral force resisting system (LFRS). Where research has lacked is in evaluating the impact of out-of-plane raigidity of the diaphragm on the deflection of shear walls. This study

Behavior of Long‐Slotted Perforated Steel Plate Fuses in Timber Brace End Connections

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Steel perforated plate fuses have emerged as a promising solution for mass timber seismic force‐resisting systems, offering tunable energy dissipation mechanisms, such as flexural and shear yielding, through geometric adjustments. This study examines the cyclic performance of perforated steel plate fuses employed in timber braced frames, with ...
