Light tailed asymptotics in an unreliable $M/G/1$ retrial queue [PDF]

open access: yesTheory of Probability and Mathematical Statistics, 2013
Summary: We consider the standard unreliable \( M/G/1\) retrial queuing system with active and passive breakdowns. The explicit expressions of the probability generating functions of distribution of server state and orbit size are well known from early works.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

EFFECTS OF FEEDING SYSTEM AND BREED ON LAMB PRODUCTIVE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS IN THE SOUTH MEDITERRANEAN REGION [PDF]

open access: yesPoljoprivreda, 2015
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of feeding regimes and breed type on growth, non-carcass components and carcass characteristics of light lambs. Twenty four light lambs from the rustic fat-tailed Barbarine (BB) breed and 21 from the

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Light-tailed asymptotics of GI/G/1-type Markov chains

open access: yesJournal of Industrial & Management Optimization, 2017
This paper studies the light-tailed asymptotics of the stationary distribution of the GI/G/1-type Markov chain. We consider three cases:(ⅰ) the tail decay rate is determined by a certain parameter \begin{document}$\theta$\end{document} associated with the transition block matrices \begin{document}$\{\boldsymbol{A}(k);k=0,\pm1,\pm2,\dots\}$\end ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Detection and molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium species in wild-caught pet spiny-tailed lizards

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2020
Uromastyx is a genus of the herbivorous agamid lizards, also known as spiny-tailed lizards or mastigures, which are found in parts of Africa and the Middle East.
