Black Holes, Shock Waves, and Causality in the AdS/CFT Correspondence [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We find the expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor in the CFT corresponding to a moving black hole in AdS. Boosting the black hole to the speed of light, keeping the total energy fixed, yields a gravitational shock wave in AdS.

Optimizing Post Friction Stir Welding Heat Treatment in Dissimilar Friction Stir Welded 6061/AlSi10MgMn Joints for Electrical Vehicle Battery Housing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Microstructural evolution and hardness optimization along the cross‐section of friction stir welded AA6061/AlSi10MgMn joints, for electric vehicle battery housings, were investigated. Postweld aging between 170°C and 220°C enhances hardness uniformity within the nugget zone.

Transverse momentum dependent parton distributions in a light-cone quark model

open access: yes, 2008
The leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) are studied in a light-cone description of the nucleon where the Fock expansion is truncated to consider only valence quarks. General analytic expressions are derived in terms of

The Light-Cone Wave Function of the Pion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The light-cone wave function of the pion is calculated within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The result is used to derive the pion electromagnetic form factor, charge radius, structure function, pi-gamma transition form factor and distribution amplitude ...

B →Vℓ+ℓ− in the Standard Model from light-cone sum rules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A bstractWe present Bq → ρ, Bq → ω, Bq → K∗, Bs → K∗ and Bs → ϕ form factors from light-cone sum rules (LCSR) at Oαs$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\alpha}_s\right) $$ for twist-2 and 3 and Oαs0$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\alpha}_s^0\right) $$ for twist-4 with updated ...

Transfer of Energy and Momentum Between Magnetoactive Surface Microstructure and a Solid Object

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that magnetoactive multilamellar arrays subjected to a rotating magnetic field can function as platforms for controlled transport of physical objects. Through systematic experimental investigation, we elucidate the underlying physical mechanisms determining the upper limit of the achievable transportation speed in such magnetic “conveyor‐

The Roles of Rods, Cones, and Melanopsin in Photoresponses of M4 Intrinsically Photosensitive Retinal Ganglion Cells (ipRGCs) and Optokinetic Visual Behavior

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2018
Intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) mediate not only image-forming vision like other ganglion cells, but also non-image-forming physiological responses to light such as pupil constriction and circadian photoentrainment.

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

No evidence for an S cone contribution to acute neuroendocrine and alerting responses to light

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2019
Summary Exposure to even moderately bright short-wavelength light in the evening can strongly suppress the production of melatonin and delay our circadian rhythm.

Second Moment of the Pion Light-cone Distribution Amplitude from Lattice QCD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present the results of a lattice study of the second moment of the light-cone pion distribution amplitude using two flavors of dynamical (clover) fermions on lattices of different volumes and pion masses down to $m_\pi\sim 150 \, \mathrm {MeV}$.
