Catalog of Integrated-light Star Cluster Light Curves in TESS

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present the first integrated-light, TESS-based light curves for star clusters in the Milky Way, Small Magellanic Cloud, and Large Magellanic Cloud. We explore the information encoded in these light curves, with particular emphasis on variability.

Can Kilonova Light Curves Be Standardized? [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2019
Abstract Binary neutron star (NS) mergers have been recently confirmed to be the progenitors of the optical transients kilonovae (KNe). KNe are powered by the radioactive decay of neutron-rich elements (r-process elements), which are believed to be the product of disruption of NSs during their merger.

Generalized Bertrand Curves of Non-Light-like Framed Curves in Lorentz–Minkowski 3-Space

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we define the generalized Bertrand curves of non-light-like framed curves in Lorentz–Minkowski 3-space; their study is essential for understanding many classical and modern physics problems.

Discrete Chi-square Method for Detecting Many Signals

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics, 2020
Unambiguous detection of signals superimposed on unknown trends is difficult for unevenly spaced data. Here, we formulate the Discrete Chi-square Method (DCM) that can determine the best model for many signals superimposed on arbitrary polynomial trends.

Focusing light in a curved-space

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
We use transformation optics to demonstrate 2D silicon nanolenses, with wavelength-independent focal point. The lenses are designed and fabricated with dimensions ranging from 5.0 microm x 5.0 microm to 20 microm x 20 microm. According to numerical simulations the lenses are expected to focus light over a broad wavelength range, from 1.30 mum to 1.60 ...

Motions of Curves in the Projective Plane Inducing the Kaup-Kupershmidt Hierarchy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The equation of a motion of curves in the projective plane is deduced. Local flows are defined in terms of polynomial differential functions. A family of local flows inducing the Kaup-Kupershmidt hierarchy is constructed.

Light curves of six bright soft X-ray transients in M31 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Disc irradiation is thought to be capable of explaining the global behaviour of the light curves of soft X-ray transients (SXTs). Depending on the strength of the central X-ray emission in irradiating the disc, the light curve may exhibit an exponential ...

STARRY: Analytic Occultation Light Curves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We derive analytic, closed form, numerically stable solutions for the total flux received from a spherical planet, moon or star during an occultation if the specific intensity map of the body is expressed as a sum of spherical harmonics.
