Improvement of light extraction efficiency in GaN-based light-emitting diodes by addition of complex photonic crystal structure

Materials Research Express, 2019
To improve the light extraction efficiency of a GaN-based light-emitting diode (LED), a new complex periodic photonic crystal structure containing two kinds of hemispheres was designed. This complex photonic crystal structure is arrayed on the surface of

Effects of light extraction efficiency to the efficiency droop of InGaN-based light-emitting diodes

Journal of Applied Physics, 2013
Light extraction efficiency (LEE) droop as an important factor contributing to the efficiency droop of InGaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) has been demonstrated and investigated in detail. The LEE droop effect is induced by the spatial dependence of the extraction efficiency of photons inside of the LED devices and the aggravating crowding effect ...

High-Efficiency Deep-Ultraviolet Light-Emitting Diodes With Efficient Carrier Confinement and High Light Extraction

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2019
In deep-ultraviolet (DUV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), it is difficult to obtain both efficient carrier confinement and high light extraction, which are quite sensitive to optical polarization and other physical parameters. In this paper, characteristics of DUV LEDs with various n-AlGaN layers and quantum barriers (QBs), and various widths of quantum ...

Improved light extraction efficiency in III-nitride photonic crystal light-emitting diodes

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
We observed a significant enhancement in light output from GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in which two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) patterns were integrated. We approached two types PC LEDs. One is top loaded PC LEDs. The PC patterns were generated on the top p-GaN layer. The other is bottom loaded PC LEDs.

High light-extraction efficiency in GaInN light-emitting diode with pyramid reflector

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
ABSTRACT A GaInN light-emitting diode (LED) that employs a new type of reflector consisting of an array of SiO 2 pyramids and a reflective Ag layer is demonstrated to have enhanced light extraction compared to GaInN LEDs with a planar Ag reflector.

Dual pattern for enhancing light extraction efficiency of white organic light-emitting diodes

Organic electronics, 2018
Nano and micro-patterns (dual patterns) were introduced on a glass substrate as an extraction layer to enhance the light extraction efficiency of white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs). The dual-patterned glass was fabricated by thermal evaporation,

Enhanced Light Extraction Efficiency of GaN-Based Hybrid Nanorods Light-Emitting Diodes

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2015
High light extraction GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with a hybrid structure of straight nanorods located in an array of microholes have been successfully demonstrated. Via the nanoimprint lithography and photolithography techniques, high aspect-ratio light-guiding InGaN/GaN nanorods can be fabricated and regularly arranged in microholes ...

36‐3: Improvement of Light Extraction Efficiency of Laser‐Phosphor Light Source

SID Symposium Digest of Technical Papers, 2017
We investigated the laser‐phosphor light source by using inorganic phosphor wheel. We experimentally confirmed the light extraction efficiency of the inorganic phosphor wheel which is 8% higher than conventional phosphor wheel. In addition, we explain about the cause of improvement of the efficiency by showing fluorescence emission model.

Characterization of light extraction efficiency for WOLEDS with light‐out‐coupling layer

Journal of the Society for Information Display, 2015
AbstractWe studied the light extraction efficiencies of white organic light‐emitting diodes with a light‐out‐coupling layer by simulations and experiments. The light extraction efficiencies estimated by the simulation were confirmed to agree well with those measured by the experiments.
