Light interception by grain legume row crops

Plant, Cell & Environment, 1984
Abstract. Four contrasting grain legume species (Glycine max, Vigna radiata. Vigna mungo and Vigna angularis) were grown as row crops with both 0.5 m and 1.0 m spacings between row centres. Light transmission profiles, at ground level, across rows of plants, were obtained for each crop on a number of occasions during growth.

Modeling light-interception for a cotton population model

1998
Light-interception by crops has been intensively studied since the early 1960s. Simple models of light interception for single plant, crop-rows, and for continuous canopy have been developed. More complex models, using crop geometry, have also been investigated and some of the studies tried to model plant competition.

Beam light interception by twisted leaf surfaces

Agricultural Meteorology, 1976
Abstract Formulae allowing the calculation of the shadow projected by a twisted leaf surface (helicoid) on a plane perpendicular to the sun's rays have been presented. The effect of leaf twisting on beam light interception in plant canopies is discussed. The effect of leaf twisting is similar to the effect of an increased erectness of the canopy.

The Light INTerception and UtiLisation family of crop models

There is a wide range of models in the LINTUL family of crop growth models. All are based on a simple relationship between leaf area index and light interception and the concept of light or radiation use efficiency to convert intercepted radiation into dry matter.
