LIGHT INTERCEPTION AND PRODUCTIVITY IN RICE

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1992
A study was carried out to determine the relationship between light interception and productivity in rice. Cultivar difference could be observed in leaf area index, leaf angle, light extinction co-efficient (k), dry matter production grain yield. The study suggests that the rice cultivar with optimum leaf area index, upright leaves (low leaf angle) and

LIGHT INTERCEPTION OF LIGHTING SYSTEMS, VENLO AND WIDE SPAN TYPE GREENHOUSES

Acta Horticulturae, 2006
TNO has developed a computer program to calculate the light interception of the greenhouse structure using an improved half-perimeter method, taking into account reflections and shadowing. This program is used to compare the light interception of Venlo and Wide span type greenhouse.

Light interception by grain legume row crops

Plant, Cell & Environment, 1984
Abstract. Four contrasting grain legume species (Glycine max, Vigna radiata. Vigna mungo and Vigna angularis) were grown as row crops with both 0.5 m and 1.0 m spacings between row centres. Light transmission profiles, at ground level, across rows of plants, were obtained for each crop on a number of occasions during growth.

Deriving light interception and biomass from spectral reflectance ratio

Remote Sensing of Environment, 1993
Abstract Light interception and reflection in different cultivars of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare) were measured in a field experiment and used to verify a theoretical relation between the fraction of intercepted photosynthetically active radiation (fPAR) and the relative vegetation index (RVI). The RVI was calculated as the ratio between infrared (

THE EFFECTS OF NITROGEN NUTRITION ON LIGHT INTERCEPTION PARAMETERS

Acta Horticulturae, 2006
Parameters of light interception have an important role in plant growth and dry matter production. Those parameters are: leaf area index (LAI), cumulative interception (CI), light interception (I) and light use efficiency (LUE). The aim of the presented research was to investigate the effect of nitrogen nutrition on light interception parameters and ...

Light interception, photosynthesis and crop productivity

Outlook on Agriculture, 1982
For a crop plant, it is suggested that photosynthetic productivity is governed by the capacity for carbon dioxide fixation available at any given time; by a host of environmental and physiological factors which may limit photosynthesis to less than capacity; and by the rate at which assimilate is partitioned into useful yield organs.

Canopy Structure, Light Interception, and Photosynthesis in Maize

Agronomy Journal, 2003
The amount and distribution of leaf area and leaf angles in a crop canopy determine how photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) is intercepted and consequently influences canopy photosynthesis and yield. Factors such as plant shape, plant populations, and row width will affect these leaf distributions and can occur in an almost infinite number of ...

Analysis of Light Interception by Single Plants

Annals of Botany, 1981
The two traditionally distinct treatments of growth analysis, using either relative growth rate (RGR) or crop growth rate (CGR), can be integrated in a single treatment in which RGR is a component of CGR. CGR can alternatively be analysed as the product of incident light receipt, efficiency of light interception (as determined by leaf area index and ...

Beam light interception by twisted leaf surfaces

Agricultural Meteorology, 1976
Abstract Formulae allowing the calculation of the shadow projected by a twisted leaf surface (helicoid) on a plane perpendicular to the sun's rays have been presented. The effect of leaf twisting on beam light interception in plant canopies is discussed. The effect of leaf twisting is similar to the effect of an increased erectness of the canopy.

Orchard level simulation of fruit tree light interception

Acta Horticulturae, 2017
Several functional-structural plant models have been built for studying fruit trees, most of which focus on single trees. Simulating an entire orchard has been a difficulty due to two challenges: one is in computing, limited by processor capability and memory capacity, as well as the sequential nature of conventional approaches; the other is the ...
