The emergence of light verb constructions

Yearbook of the German Cognitive Linguistics Association, 2021
AbstractThis paper takes a data-driven perspective on the grammaticalization of German light verb constructions (LVCs) withkommen‘come’. LVCs are complex predicates consisting of a semantically light verb and an eventive noun realized within a phrasal complement, e.g. Germanzur Vollendung kommen, lit. ‘come into completion’.

Light Verb Constructions as Complex Verbs

2023
The notion of light verb constructions has been traditionally related to the ‘insignificance’ of the verb, which is described as a grammatical item only codifying TAM system and φ-features, whereas the whole predicative content is thought to be conveyed by the noun.

Identification of Croatian Light Verb Constructions with NooJ

2017

The nominal part in light verb constructions (LVCs) can be either a noun phrase (e.g.

The acquisition of event nominals and light verb constructions

Language and Linguistics Compass, 2019
Abstract In language acquisition, children assume that syntax and semantics reliably map onto each other, and they use these mappings to guide their inferences about novel word meanings: For instance, at the lexical level, nouns should name objects and verbs name events, and at the clausal level, syntactic arguments should match ...
