Analysis of Characters of Lightning Activity and Lightning Disaster in Hunan
2019 11th Asia-Pacific International Conference on Lightning (APL), 2019Based on the thunderstorm observation data from 1956 to 2013 of meteorological stations in Hunan, the lightning monitoring data from 2008 to 2017, and lightning disaster data from 2002 to 2017, the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of lightening and lightning disaster in Hunan are analyzed.

Lightning activity in typhoon Morakot(0908)
2014 International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2014Using the real-time and continuous lightning location data from World Wide Lightning Network (WWLLN) and other data, such as basic information about typhoon and related satellite data from China Meteorological Administration (CMA) to study the distribution and variation of lightning activity in typhoon Morakot.

IEE Half-day Colloquium on Lightning Protection of Wind Turbines, 1997
Total protection from lightning is not presently possible, however even if it was, it is likely that economic considerations would preclude universal application. The assessment of risk is therefore an essential element in the consideration of protection of any structure. The question of where, and how much, and what type of protection does not have an

Schumann resonance and global lightning activity
MMET Conference Proceedings. 1998 International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory. MMET 98 (Cat. No.98EX114), 2002Temporal variations of the global lightning activity are deduced from the long-term Schumann resonance (SR) continuous records. The intensities of the horizontal magnetic field component of the first, second, and third SR modes were monitored at the Tottori Observatory (35.5/spl deg/N and 134.33/spl deg/E).

Locations and Activities of Lightning Casualties
2018In developed regions of the globe, lightning protection is provided by the ready availability of lightning-safe structures and fully enclosed metal-topped vehicles during most daily activities of most people. In developing economies, in contrast, the lack of such lightning-safe structures and vehicles makes lightning safety very difficult to achieve ...

Vertical Development of Lightning Activity Observed by the LDAR System: Lightning Bubbles
Journal of Applied Meteorology, 2003Abstract In some Florida thunderstorm cells, impulsive very high frequency (VHF) radiation from lightning channels begins abruptly in a layer that is typically 3ā6 km in diameter, 1ā3 km tall, and initially located just above the freezing level. In 208 cases described here, 58% of the lightning bubbles ascended with a velocity 11ā17 m sā1.

Aerosol-Induced Lightning Activation in Thunderclouds
Langmuir, 2002There are a large number of observations describing aerosol-induced lightning activation in clouds. However, little is known on the precise mechanism aerosols have on atmospheric electrification processes. Aerosols could modify the topography of ice crystals grown by riming, generating nanoscopic curvature asymmetries between colliding ice particle ...

Lightning activities on the Tibetan Plateau as observed by the lightning imaging sensor
Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2003Lightning flash activities on the Tibetan Plateau are investigated using observations from the lightning imaging sensor. About 95% of the flashes are found to occur during May to September with a single peak in the summer from June to August. There is substantial lightning activity in May on the plateau, especially on the southern and eastern plateau ...

Lightning activity monitoring system in real time
2016 5th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2016This paper describes a new real time remote lightning monitoring system in the region. Importance of such systems and data that they provide is explained. First measurements data are shown. Future steps in development of system are mentioned.
