1922 Developments in autovalve lightning arresters

Journal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1923
The work done in the past year in developing commercial forms of lightning arresters based on the ``autovalve'' principle is reported. Fundamental data given by Dr. Slepian at the 1922 Midwinter Convention are briefly reviewed. The balance of the paper deals with new material and covers further research, development and test.

Lightning Arrester Discharge Currents

Nature, 1948
DURING the last five years an investigation has been made of the discharge currents of a number of 38,000-volt lightning arresters. The transmission system on which these arresters were installed is operated with its neutral point earthed through Peterson coils; the lines are not equipped with overhead ground wires.

Evaluation of Absorption Energy of Surge Arrester on Medium-Voltage Lines by Lightning to Wind Turbine in Winter

2019 11th Asia-Pacific International Conference on Lightning (APL), 2019
In recent years, the rate of burnout accidents due to excess energy capacity of surge arresters on medium-voltage distribution lines is increasing in lightning accidents.

Transient Electric Field Calculation of Zinc oxide arrester under Lightning Impulse Voltage

Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2018
For a fast changing excitation like lightning impulse voltage which is applied to a zinc oxide arrester, its waveform in frequency domain contains many different frequency harmonic components and its response is the sum of the response of each harmonic ...

New Principles in the Design of Lightning Arresters

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1907
The installation of lightning arresters is of the nature of an insurance. A certain percentage of the cost of the apparatus can reasonably be invested as a safeguard in protecting the apparatus. Furthermore, a percentage of the income can also be invested in protective apparatus as an insurance against interruption of service.

A study of degradation characteristics and diagnostic method of lightning surge arrester for 6.6kV power distribution lines

International Conference on Logic Programming, 2018
Lightning surge arresters with a series gap are used in Japan for 6.6 kV distribution lines and are primarily comprised of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) with a series gap, and they are sealed by a metal lid and a sealing rubber. The degradation of the MOV
