Nature–society relations in disaster governance frameworks

open access: yesDisasters, Volume 49, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract This paper studies how the relations between nature and society are constructed in disaster governance frameworks. Dominant disaster governance frameworks present nature and society as separate realms, and the organisation of society is increasingly seen as the key cause of hazards and disasters.

The Lightning Arrestor Connector [PDF]

open access: closedIEEE Transactions on Parts, Hybrids, and Packaging, 1976
A multipin connector has been modified to include lightning arresting features. A dielectric stimulated arc is used for rapid electrical, breakdown in the connector prior to any damage to downstream components. This report reviews the connector design basis and concept, and summarizes the electrical test results obtained during development and ...

Dielectric Stimulated Arcs in Lightning-Arrestor Connectors

open access: closedIEEE Transactions on Components, Hybrids, and Manufacturing Technology, 1979
Substantial lowering of breakdown voltage can occur between electrodes in air when a solid insulator surface bridges these electrodes. The breakdown mechanism involves a type of surface flashover across the insulator. The apparent triggering of the breakdown by the insulator is called a dielectric stimulated arc.

The Lightning Arrestor-Connector Concept: Description and Data

IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 1973
Experimental and theoretical data show that a new compact lightning arrestor can be incorporated into a multipin connector housing to protect components in missile, aircraft, and ground systems from lightning energy. This energy is sometimes transmitted into component compartments causing component burnout, ignition of explosives, and circuit ...

The Lightning Arrestor-Connector - A New Concept in System Electrical Protection

1972 IEEE International Electromagnetic Compatibility Symposium Record, 1972
A new compact lightning arrestor can be incorporated into a connector housing to protect missile, aircraft and ground systems from lightning energy that can sometimes be transmitted to sensitive components on wires that pass into component compartments. This energy can cause component burnout, ignition of explosives, and circuit malfunctions.
