Research on Differentiated Lightning Protection of Overhead Distribution Lines under Continuous Lightning Strikes

open access: yesEnergies
Distribution lines are an important component of a power system. Lightning disasters have serious adverse effects on the reliability of the power supply in distribution networks.

Analysis of a back flashover across insulator strings on a 115 kV transmission line tower by PSCAD

open access: yesKKU Engineering Journal, 2015
Lightning striking on a transmission tower induces high ground potential rise and high voltage at tower arms in which potential is normally at ground level, and subsequently causes overvoltage across an insulator string.

Strategies for Assessing Post‐Wildfire Geomorphic Resilience in Semiarid Rivers

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We review and summarize diverse components of a catchment that can be monitored after wildfire to assess the geomorphic resilience of the river corridor in semiarid regions. We distinguish upland portions of river catchments from river corridors.

Sentipensar [Feel‐Thinking] Cultivates Collective Scientific Sensemaking and Worldbuilding Within and Beyond Ecological Despair

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Educating youth about environmental and climate justice is crucial in realizing a sustainable and flourishing future. Yet this can be challenging given the intense eco‐emotions youth experience and express while learning about these consequential realities and their implications.

Transforming Paper into Plasmonic Sensors: One‐Step Fabrication of High‐Enhancement SERS Nanosubstrates via Surface Energy Control

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Cellulose paper is transformed into a high‐performance plasmonic sensor through a process called SILVERED, which involves single‐step vapor deposition onto fluorosilanized fibers. Surface‐energy contrast drives uniform silver nanoparticle growth with sub‐10 nm hot‐spot gaps, achieving 2 pM detection of rhodamine B.

Investigation of lightning ignition characteristics based on an impulse current generator

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
Lightning strike is an important ignition source of forest fires. Artificial lightning discharge is a method for studying lightning fires. However, there is not enough data on the ignition of combustible materials caused by artificial lightning discharge.

Central Bank Digital Currencies, Financial Inclusion, and Privacy: A Normative Perspective

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) are a digital form of a nation's money, issued by its central bank. As opposed to other forms of digital money, such as electronic bank balances or cryptocurrencies, they are centrally managed legal tender.

The Lightning Current Measurement Based on Wavelet Transform

open access: yesModern Applied Science, 2010
Summary: The current model of the lightning process is established and simulated in this article, and aiming at the disadvantage that the hardware filtering de-noising method adopted in the general lightning measurement system can not effectively separate signals and noises in same one frequency channel, this article uses the wavelet transform to ...

Bath Vibration During Open Eye Formation in a Physical Model of a Steelmaking Ladle

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Using a physical model, this study shows that vibration measurements reliably predict open eye size in steelmaking ladles, offering a practical alternative to visual monitoring. Vessel vibrations stabilize faster than the open eye, except at high frequencies near the bottom.

Refined risk assessment and differentiated protection of lightning damage in distribution network lines considering the underlying surface environment

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research
The distribution line is widely distributed and the span of pole-towers is small. However, the existing lightning positioning system has limited positioning accuracy, and the lightning strike coordinates it locates have certain deviations for the ...
