A Fiber-Optic Aircraft Lightning Current Measurement Sensor [PDF]

open access: yes
A fiber-optic current sensor based on the Faraday Effect is developed for aircraft installations. It can measure total lightning current amplitudes and waveforms, including continuing current.

Decentralized propaganda in the era of digital media: The massive presence of the Chinese state on Douyin

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The rise of social media in the digital era poses unprecedented challenges to authoritarian regimes that aim to influence public attitudes and behaviors. To address these challenges, we argue that authoritarian regimes have adopted a decentralized approach to produce and disseminate propaganda on social media.

Wildfires and Atopic Diseases: A Review

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wildfire smoke is a major environmental health threat that has increased in frequency and severity in recent years. A hazardous component of wildfire smoke is particulate matter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5). There is evidence to suggest that exposure to wildfire PM2.5 may increase the risk of developing or exacerbating atopic diseases, such as asthma ...

Measurement and analysis of partial lightning currents in a head phantom

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2019
Direct lightning strikes to the human head can lead to various effects, ranging from burnings to death. The biological and physical mechanisms of a direct lightning strike in the human head are not well understood. The aim of this paper is to design an experimental setup to measure the spatial and temporal current distribution during a direct lightning

Climate Change, Air Quality, and Pollen Allergies—State of the Art and Recommendations for Research and Public Health

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Allergies are one of the major health challenges of our time, associated with a high individual burden of disease and high costs for the healthcare system. Given their prevalence, allergies are also highly relevant from a public health perspective. The development of allergic diseases is multifactorial. In addition to individual factors (e.g.,

Intravenous immunoglobulin and febrile status epilepticus in children with Dravet syndrome: A retrospective multicentre study

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
This multicenter retrospective study evaluated the use of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in 14 children with Dravet syndrome as a preventive strategy against febrile status epilepticus. Over a 6‐month period, IVIG was associated with a significant reduction in hospitalizations for febrile status epilepticus.

Co‐localization of tau and TDP‐43 after extracellular vesicle delivery to cells

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from donor cells transfected with EGFP–2N4R‐tau or mCherry‐wtTDP‐43 were taken up by recipient cells, leading to cytosolic co‐localization of tau and TDP‐43. Molecular modeling revealed that tau and TDP‐43 directly interact through hydrogen bonding, suggesting a mechanistic link underlying their co‐pathology ...
