Non-direct lightning current measurement for lightning location systems calibration

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2003
An alternative approach for calibration of lightning location systems is proposed. The basis of the method is a new electronic device that performs non-direct measurement and register of lightning current parameters, including waveshape and instant of occurrence. Circuit diagrams and the device operation are described.

Fair weather induced charges and currents on tall wind turbines and experiments with kites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Earth’s atmospheric potential rapidly increases up to few tens of kilovolts below 200 m altitude. This potential drop will induce charge to tall objects at ground by virtue of electrostatic induction.

Evaluation of lightning location and lightning current wave shape using measured lightning magnetic fields at two stations [PDF]

open access: yes2016 33rd International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2016
In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to evaluate a lightning location as well as the lightning current wave shapes at different heights along a channel using lightning measured magnetic fields at two stations. The proposed algorithm is based on the captured return stroke part of the magnetic fields directly in the time domain.
