Ionospheric Characterization Using VLF Whistlers
Abstract Broadband very low frequency (VLF, 3–30 kHz) energy emitted from lightning travels long distances in subionospheric propagation modes. Some of this energy couples into the ionosphere and travels to satellite altitudes along a predominantly field‐aligned path in what is known as a “whistler” propagation mode. Along this path, these VLF signals (

Extreme Coastal Waves Due To Australian East Coast Lows in a Warming Climate
Abstract The southeast coastline of Australia is frequently impacted by East Coast Lows (ECLs), hybrid storms with both tropical and extratropical characteristics. Although typically short‐lived and spatially limited, ECLs can rapidly intensify and generate extreme waves that cause severe coastal erosion and associated hazards.

Abstract The hydroxyl radical (OH) defines the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere and determines the lifetime of reactive greenhouse gases, including methane. The response of OH to climate warming is influenced by uncertain and compensating processes involving meteorological factors and temperature‐sensitive natural emissions, including soil NOx ...

Initial Estimates of Soil Mercury Emissions Induced by Soil Heating During Global Wildfires
Abstract Wildfires, increasingly frequent extreme events driven by global change, have significantly accelerated the release of mercury (Hg) stored in soils. However, a systematic quantification of Hg emissions from topsoil heating during global wildfires has been lacking.
