Evaluation of Residual Inductance of the Impulse Generator for the Generation of Lightning Impulse Voltage

2020
This paper presents an optimization method for the design and analysis of impulse generators according to the requirements of the international standard IEC 60060-1. An optimization algorithm has been developed to calculate the residual inductance in the impulse generator circuit. The optimization approach can calculate the residual inductance which is

Characterization and Verification of Suitability of a Digitizer for Lightning Impulses

2018 IEEE International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE), 2018
This paper discusses the requirements and the performance of the recording instruments used in high voltage impulse measurements. The target of high accuracy and in the same time fast settling without creeping behaviour are the key issues of this work. Therefore, one of the most promising digitizers on the market was tested in linearity and temperature

Lightning Impulse Behavior Of Conducting Composite Electrodes

2006 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2006
During lightning impulse type testing of medium voltage switchgears up to two spark-overs are accepted. Consequently, when selecting conducting composites for use in screens and shields of such equipment it is important that their surfaces not degrade after a spark-over, as this normally will reduce the overall dielectric withstand level.

Treeing inception of xlpe at lightning impulse voltage

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 1992
AbstractThis paper deals with investigations of the treeing inception of polyethylene insulation under lightning impulse voltage. The experimental results of investigations with XLPE samples in a needle‐plane arrangement will be presented and the influence of various parameters will be discussed.

Circuit for Impulse Testing of Gas-Tube Lightning Arresters

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1972
Telephone lines may be protected from lightning-induced surges by gas-tube lightning arresters. Typical arresters break down at 250-400 V dc. Breakdown voltage increases with the rate of rise of the applied voltage and may be two or three times the dc value at a rate of rise of 10 kV/μs.

Metodology for Lightning Impulse Voltage Divisors Design

IEEE Latin America Transactions, 2009
This paper presents a design methodology for damped capacitive voltage divider for lightning impulse waves measurement; the methodology includes design verification using three different computational tools (EMTP, MATLAB and ELCUT). The methodology was validated by constructing and testing two 300 kV dividers at the High Voltage Laboratory of the ...

Lightning impulse corona characteristics of conductors and bundles

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1997
The paper describes an experimental study and a computational method of estimating the q-u corona characteristics of single and bundle conductors for conductor-plane and conductor-conductor gaps under lightning impulse voltages. Measurements were performed for individual subconductors in a bundle which provided data necessary for an estimation of ...

Soil ionisation under lightning impulse voltages

IEE Proceedings - Science, Measurement and Technology, 2004
Experiments have been carried out to study soil ionisation and the variation of the critical ionisation gradient against the soil resistivity. Compared with relevant experimental results of other researchers a satisfactory convergence has been proved. An accurate estimation of the critical ionisation gradient has been achieved, of the order of 200 kV/m,

Lightning Impulse Breakdown Characteristics of Frozen Soil

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2008
The impulse characteristics of frozen soil are the fundament for the lightning protection design of the overhead transmission lines in frozen soil environments. In this paper, the conductivity and lightning impulse breakdown characteristics of the frozen soil were experimentally studied, and those key factors influencing the impulse breakdown ...

Development of lightning electromagnetic impulse simulator on buildings

2010 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2010
In this paper, we report the development of lightning electromagnetic impulse simulator on buildings. This simulator is linked with the counting code VSTL (Virtual Surge Test Lab.) based on the FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) method being developed by Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry.
