Quaternary structures of Streptococcus pneumoniae nucleoside diphosphate kinase: From hexamers to supramolecular assemblies

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) is a key enzyme that controls the balance of nucleotide pools in all living organisms. Beyond this fundamental role, NDKs exert pleiotropic effects in many cellular processes, including cell development, signal transduction, differentiation, tumor metastasis, and gene expression. The quaternary structure

On the influence of corona on lightning-induced overvoltages

open access: yes, 2010
An experimentally inferred charge-voltage (Q-V) diagram used to macroscopically model the corona phenomenon is adopted for the calculation of the lightning-induced transients in presence of corona. The paper aim at presenting the calculation procedure as

DETERMINATION OF THE LEVEL OF OVERVOLTAGE IN THE SECONDARY CIRCUITS OF SUBSTATIONS WHEN LIGHTNING IMPULSE VOLTAGE IS DISTRIBUTED IN HIGH-VOLTAGE BUSES

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2017
Lightning voltage impulse due to the waves of storm surge rolling out the high voltage line to a substation causes current to flow in the buses that, due to magnetic effect, induces overvoltage in the secondary circuit.

Bath Vibration During Open Eye Formation in a Physical Model of a Steelmaking Ladle

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 9, Page 4684-4713, September 2026.
Using a physical model, this study shows that vibration measurements reliably predict open eye size in steelmaking ladles, offering a practical alternative to visual monitoring. Vessel vibrations stabilize faster than the open eye, except at high frequencies near the bottom.

A Magnetospheric Source for Near‐Planet Whistler‐Mode Waves at Venus

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The presence or absence of lightning in the atmosphere of Venus has important implications for atmospheric chemistry, potential chemical signatures of life, identifying volcanic activity, and quantifying potential hazards to future exploration missions.

Lightning Protection Technology for Overhead Insulated Lines of 10kV Distribution Network Based on Linear Least Square Positioning Method

open access: yesJournal of Applied Science and Engineering
The calculation of the series gap distance of the lightning protection device in the 10 kV distribution network is rough, and the positioning error of the lightning strike point may be large, which affects the stability of electricity consumption ...

Systematic Component‐Level Characterization of Electricity Transmission Infrastructure for Space Weather Risk Assessment

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Space weather risk assessment is constrained by the lack of available asset information needed to model geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) in electricity transmission infrastructure. We propose a systematic method that enables risk analysts to collect their own open‐source substation data.

Charge structure in volcanic plumes: a comparison of plume properties predicted by an integral plume model to observations of volcanic lightning during the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Observations of volcanic lightning made using a lightning mapping array during the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull allow the trajectory and growth of the volcanic plume to be determined.
