Leadership and Accountability in Faith‐Based Institutions: Evidence From UK Mosques

open access: yesFinancial Accountability &Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates accountability in religious institutions on the basis of evidence obtained from interviews with relevant parties in UK mosques. We mobilize prior theoretical contention regarding servant leadership and constraints on personal accountability to expose perceptions of seriously deficient discharge outcomes.

Effect of Cross-Linking on the Electrical Properties of LDPE and its Lightning Impulse Ageing Characteristics

open access: yes, 2011
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is commonly used within high voltage cable insulation. It has improved thermal and mechanical resistance compared to normal low density polyethylene (LDPE).

Natural disaster risk salience and the strategic appointment of directors with sustainability expertise

open access: yesJournal of Financial Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines how salient sustainability risks from near‐miss natural disasters influence board composition. Using a difference‐in‐differences design, I find that firms located in counties neighboring disaster‐affected areas significantly increase the presence of directors with sustainability expertise following the disaster.

Influence of the Residual Inductance of the Impulse Generator for the Generation of the Lightning Impulse Voltage

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Power and Energy, 2007
This paper describes the theoretical analysis of lightning impulse voltage waveform with an overshoot or oscillation caused by the residual inductance of the impulse generator. The oscillating lightning impulse waveform is expressed by the following formula;vout (t) = A {e-α1t - e-α2t sin(ωt+θ)/sinθ}where A, α1, α2, ω, θ are constants, respectively ...

Disasters, Dictators, and Donors: The Impact of Foreign Aid on Economic Activity (Mis)Reporting

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines how governments manipulate economic data to secure more foreign disaster aid. By using nighttime lighting as a reliable measure of economic activity, we make two key findings: (1) foreign disaster aid is positively linked to a country's understatement of its gross domestic product, indicating a deliberate strategy to ...

From Policy Legitimization to Blame Avoidance—Discursive Strategies During Denmark's Mink Culling Crisis

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, Volume 54, Issue 4, November 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper examines how governments navigate policy legitimacy during crises through three distinct discursive processes: legitimization, delegitimization, and blame avoidance. Using a sequential mixed‐methods design, the study analyzes Denmark's decision to cull all mink during the COVID‐19 pandemic. The quantitative analysis of 947 newspaper

A Novel Distributed Sensor Network to Assess Wind Turbine Blade Acoustics for Structural Health Monitoring

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 29, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT To reduce the need for scheduled wind turbine blade inspections and large‐scale repairs, a novel distributed acoustic sensing system for monitoring the structural health of wind turbine blades is proposed. This integral passive monitoring system utilizes a sparse array of in‐blade multimodal sensors and a single blade‐external downtower sensor,

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 51, 11 September 2026.
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.

Formation of Saturn's ring spokes by lightning-induced electron beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Spokes are near-linear markings sometimes visible on Saturn's rings. They are widely accepted as being electrostatically-levitated sheets of similar to 0.6 micron-radius charged grains.
