Lightning location with linet in Europe
2010 30th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2010Starting some 10 years ago the ‘Sferics Research’ group at the Physics Department of the University of Munich developed methods for lightning location based on the latest available technologies. Nowcast GmbH, an off-spring of this project, installed in 2006 the new system LINET in Europe and begun full operation.

Locations and Activities of Lightning Casualties
2018In developed regions of the globe, lightning protection is provided by the ready availability of lightning-safe structures and fully enclosed metal-topped vehicles during most daily activities of most people. In developing economies, in contrast, the lack of such lightning-safe structures and vehicles makes lightning safety very difficult to achieve ...

Waveform and location analyses of localised lightning locating system
2010 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2010Lightning mapping or locating systems are based on several working principles such as the Time of Arrival (ToA) and the Directional Finder (DF). The country wide lightning locating system (LLS) owned by TNB Malaysia is able to determine the coordinate of the cloud-to-ground lightning strike within 500m accuracy.

Analytics of Lightning Data Collected by the Direct Measurement System and Lightning Location System
2018 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT-Europe), 2018The paper presents the analytics of lightning data collected by monitoring system in real - time for the measurement of the direct lightning current (LAMS) and the lightning location system (LINET). The both systems and their operation mode are shortly described. A great number of collected data are analyzed, explained and compared.

Lightning characteristics on Java island, observed by lightning location network
11th International Symposium on High-Voltage Engineering (ISH 99), 1999To investigate characteristics of lightning in the tropics, an observation using a lightning detection network has been carried out on the Java Island (Indonesia) since February 1994, employing the combination of MDF and TOA techniques with four stations.

Lightning protection of the object located on the slope
Herald of the Ural State University of Railway Transport, 2021The article points out the drawback of all the current instructions for the lightning protection device: the lack of instructions for calculating the lightning protection zones of an object located on a slope. The methods of applying the current instructions for the lightning protection device when placing an object on a slope are given, based on the ...

The Belgian Lightning Location System (BELLS)
2023<p>The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) has been operating a lightning detection network since 1992. Over the past years, the network has undergone upgrades at the level of soft- and hardware. The present-day Belgian Lightning Location System (BELLS) consists out of 14 LS7002 sensors, out of which five are owned by RMI and ...

Improvements to the BOLT lightning location system
2016 33rd International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2016The Broadband Observational network for Lightning and Thunderstorms (BOLT) is a network of low frequency electric field antennas which is capable of mapping lightning flashes in 3D. We are currently investigating improvements to both the hardware design of the BOLT antennas, and to the algorithm used to determine each lightning source location.

Analysis of the French lightning locating system location accuracy
2015 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XIII SIPDA), 2015The location accuracy is one of the important parameters characterizing the performance of a lightning location system. It is also one of the most difficult to determine as the actual location of the discharge being located must be accurately known to achieve a reliable assessment of the real error.
