Overview of lightning location systems
Science & Technology Development Journal - Engineering and Technology, 2021Lightning location systems provide valuable and vital data for study of lightning on the earth. Developed nations already built not only one but aslo many lightning location networks in their territories in order to collect highly reliable national dataset of lightning.

Electromagnetic Measurement of and Location of Lightning
Electromagnetics, 1987ABSTRACT This paper summarizes some techniques developed for electromagnetic measurements of lightning electromagnetic fields at Langmuir Laboratory. These included measurement of transient electric and magnetic fields at the ground surface, use of these fields to estimate location of the lightning and properties of the source, and use of time of ...

VHF Technique for Locating Lightning
Radio Science, 1969The principles of a lightning location method using the VHF signals emitted by the discharge are outlined. Consideration of the source characteristics (notably signal strength and intervals between pulses; of the noise background; of the differences between the signals incident at spatially separated receivers; and of the electronic equipment now ...

Performance of lightning locating systems in extracting lightning flash characteristics
Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2014Abstract A study was carried out to compare the negative cloud to ground lightning discharges recorded using Swedish lightning locating system against time correlated direct field measurements. Only the first 200 ms time window was investigated. A total of 167 flashes were recorded and time matched against the lightning locating system records.

Waveform and location analyses of localised lightning locating system
2010 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2010Lightning mapping or locating systems are based on several working principles such as the Time of Arrival (ToA) and the Directional Finder (DF). The country wide lightning locating system (LLS) owned by TNB Malaysia is able to determine the coordinate of the cloud-to-ground lightning strike within 500m accuracy.

Development of a New Portable Lightning Location System
IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2012Using a single-site lightning location technique, a new portable lightning location system is developed. We incorporate an attitude detection technique using inertial sensors to detect an accurate electromagnetic field vector of sferics by palm-sized electromagnetic sensors which can have arbitrary attitude.
