Lightning Risk Assessment - Electric Field Meter, Lightning Location System and Weather Radar Data

2023 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XVII SIPDA), 2023
Thunderstorms and associated cloud-to-ground flashes have a significant effect on our infrastructure. Reliable assessments of these natural events are challenged by the unpredictable development of thunderstorms and by changes in the climatic conditions.

Positive Cloud-to-Ground Lightning Observed in Shah Alam, Malaysia based on SAFIR 3000 Lightning Location System

2021 IEEE International Conference in Power Engineering Application (ICPEA), 2021
Compared to negative cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning, positive CG are less frequent but can produce strokes with higher peak currents making them to be potentially more dangerous.

Difference in Lightning Current Estimated by Lightning Location System Between Triggered Lightning to Ground and Distribution Line

IEEE transactions on electromagnetic compatibility (Print), 2021
In this article, we analyzed the difference in the estimated currents from the Foshan Total Lightning Location System (FTLLS) under two triggered lightning situations, i.e., triggered lightning to ground and triggered lightning to the distribution line ...

Waveform and location analyses of localised lightning locating system

2010 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2010
Lightning mapping or locating systems are based on several working principles such as the Time of Arrival (ToA) and the Directional Finder (DF). The country wide lightning locating system (LLS) owned by TNB Malaysia is able to determine the coordinate of the cloud-to-ground lightning strike within 500m accuracy.

Performance of lightning locating systems in extracting lightning flash characteristics

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2014
Abstract A study was carried out to compare the negative cloud to ground lightning discharges recorded using Swedish lightning locating system against time correlated direct field measurements. Only the first 200 ms time window was investigated. A total of 167 flashes were recorded and time matched against the lightning locating system records.
