Distinct Cloud‐to‐Ground Lightning Properties in Frontal Versus Warm‐Sector Heavy Rainfall Events

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Do systematic differences in cloud‐to‐ground (CG) lightning properties—particularly return stroke number and current intensity—exist across different thunderstorm types? This question is foundational not only to the atmospheric electricity but also to advancing lightning risk prediction, which crucially depends on a robust understanding of how

Increased Aerosols From Siberian Wildfires Buffered Arctic Warming During 2013–2019

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract During 2013–2019, global aerosols, influenced by regional clean air actions and wildfires, changed significantly. Clean air actions in China, Europe, and North America reduced anthropogenic aerosols, whereas Siberia experienced increased wildfire aerosols due to local warm and dry conditions.

Health Impact Analysis of Wildfire Smoke‐PM2.5 in Canada (2019–2023)

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 10, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Wildfires are a source of air pollution, including PM2.5. Exposure to PM2.5 from wildfire smoke is associated with adverse health effects including premature death and respiratory morbidity. Air quality modeling was performed to quantify seasonal wildfire‐PM2.5 exposure across Canada for 2019–2023, and the annual acute and chronic health ...

DeepRec: Global Terrestrial Water Storage Reconstruction Since 1941 Using Spatiotemporal‐Aware Deep Learning Model

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Terrestrial water storage (TWS) plays an important role in describing the Earth system, as water availability is decisive for ecosystems and human development. Since 2002, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and its Follow‐On (GRACE‐FO) mission have measured TWS anomalies with unprecedented accuracy, enabling a leap in ...
