Lightning occurrence data observed with lightning location systems in Japan: 1992-1995
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1998Cloud-to-ground lightning occurrence for years 1992-1995 has been analyzed using the data obtained with nine different lightning location systems in Japan. A total of more than 2 million lightning strokes are observed for the four years and the number of annual lightning strokes is closely related to the weather conditions in summer.

Development of a New Portable Lightning Location System
IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2012Using a single-site lightning location technique, a new portable lightning location system is developed. We incorporate an attitude detection technique using inertial sensors to detect an accurate electromagnetic field vector of sferics by palm-sized electromagnetic sensors which can have arbitrary attitude.

The World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) over Spain
Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences. The World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) operates a distributed network of stations which detect lightning signals at a planetary scale. Very high currents from lightning strokes radiate strong very low frequency signals in the 6–22 kHz band ...

The Met Office's upgraded lightning location system
Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, 1998Abstract The Met. Office (UK NMS) has operated a VLF ‘arrival time difference’ thunderstorm location system since 1986. This system's hardware is currently being upgraded and its software enhanced. Hardware improvements will allow the system to operate automatically and increase the number of lightning strokes that may be processed per hour to ...

A statistical study using lightning data in Portugal from a Lightning Location System
2016 33rd International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2016This paper presents a study on lightning statistics over the continental territory of Portugal during a period from 2003 to 2014, using the data collected by the national Lightning Location System. Being part of the EUCLID (European Cooperation of Lightning Detection) project, this European grid is presented and its performance validated over the ...

Development of a lightning recording and location system
11th International Symposium on High-Voltage Engineering (ISH 99), 1999A low-cost system for the automatic recording of lightning was developed at the High Voltage Laboratory of National Technical University of Athens, Greece. The system includes two pair loop antennae for the measurement of the magnetic flux density caused by the lightning current, an electronic integrator of the signal, a data acquisition system and a ...
