Evaluating lightning hazards to building environments using explicit numerical solutions of Maxwell's equations [PDF]
The objective here is to describe the lightning hazards to buildings and their internal environments using advanced formulations of Maxwell's Equations. The method described is the Three Dimensional Finite Difference Time Domain Solution.

Quality Regulation and Unexpected Gaming: Evidence From Mandating Flight Delay Compensation
ABSTRACT Policies that target a single aspect of agents' motivation may lead to their diminished efforts in other areas. This paper examines the effect of the European Union's flight delay compensation policy on flight on‐time performance by exploiting a unique policy variation in a difference‐in‐differences framework.

A Strike from the Air: Cerebral Hemorrhage after a Lightning Strike
Lightning strikes pose a rare but catastrophic risk for a variety of injuries, including damage to the central nervous system. We present the case of a 79-year-old farmer who survived a lightning strike directly in the chest resulting in an intracerebral

Review of the Lightning Strike Incident at Launch Complex 37 on July 27, 1967, and Comparison to a Gemini Lightning Strike [PDF]
The Launch Complex 37 lightning strike of July 27, 1967, was reviewed and compared to a similar incident on the Gemini Program. Available data indicate little likelihood of damaging currents having been present in SA-204 Launch Vehicle or the ground ...

Abstract This article examines how salient sustainability risks from near‐miss natural disasters influence board composition. Using a difference‐in‐differences design, I find that firms located in counties neighboring disaster‐affected areas significantly increase the presence of directors with sustainability expertise following the disaster.

Microspherules Formed by Lightning Strikes
Abstract Natural microspherules are formed by high‐temperature processes and are present throughout the geologic record to the present day. We report the discovery of large numbers of microspherules recovered from a rock pavement in the Pilbara region, Western Australia.

Nationalist–Feminine Bifurcation: The Construction of National Morality Through Gender Regimes
ABSTRACT This article introduces the concept of nationalist–feminine bifurcation to analyse how nationalist–populist regimes construct moral orders through gendered representations. It explores how women are simultaneously portrayed as the idealized ‘national woman’ and the excluded ‘moral threat’. Through a comparative discourse analysis of four cases—
