SUMMARY A 3-year study from 1962 to 1965 on the effects of lightning on livestock was reported. Gross lesions in many cases were minimal. In 75 detailed necropsies of lightning fatalities, singed hair and skin were the most significant lesions caused by lightning.

Ophthalmic Manifestations of Lightning Strike
Survey of Ophthalmology, 2001Every year in the USA, 100-150 people die and 1000-1500 others are injured by lightning strikes. Ophthalmic and neurologic injuries from lightning strike are common. The most common permanent ocular sequela is cataract, but many areas of the eye can be affected. Prompt evaluation by an ophthalmologist is imperative for maximizing outcomes.

Lightning Strikes at a Mass Gathering
Southern Medical Journal, 1999Among natural disasters, lightning is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. A well-informed bystander and an astute physician can make the difference between an outcome of death or lifelong disability versus complete or near-complete recovery.

Lightning Strike Protection of Radomes
International Conference on Embedded and Multimedia Computing, 2019Antenna radomes on an aircraft are the most vulnerable external aircraft parts in the event of a lightning strike. The radome wall is made from dielectric materials, offering no EM screening of the antenna to the external EM fields associated with ...
