Lightning accidents in the Austrian alps – a 10-year retrospective nationwide analysis

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, 2018
Background Lightning strikes are rare but potentially lethal. The risk for suffering a lightning strike in a mountain environment is unknown. The aim of this nationwide study was to analyse all lightning accidents in the Austrian Alps from 2005 to 2015 ...

A Study of Lightning Activity over Different Ecological Zones of Nepal [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In the present work, occurrence of lightning activity over different ecological zones of Nepal has been studied. It has been observed that Lower Tropical zone receives lightning strikes with largest value of density of strikes whereas the Trans-Himalayan zone receives lightning strikes with least value of density of strikes.

Characterizing Drivers of Asia's Black Elephant Disaster Risks

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 10, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Asia has the fastest growing population and economy, but it is also the most disaster‐prone region in the world. Resilience to disaster impacts from natural hazards will be key to the long‐term sustainability of this rapidly growing region. The first step to building resilience is to identify the key threats that this region faces. We describe

Lightning strike probability and current simulation for simple structures and floating roof tank

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2022
Air terminations must be strategically positioned at high-risk points to prevent lightning bypass. The likelihood of a direct lightning strike to points on a building can be evaluated using the dynamic electro-geometrical model (DEGM), which considers ...

Kalman Filter and Wavelet Cross-correlation for VHF Broadband Interferometer Lightning Mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A lightning mapping system based on perpendicular crossed baseline interferometer (ITF) technology has been developed rapidly in recent years. Several processing methods have been proposed to estimate the temporal location and spatial map of lightning strikes.
