Recycling of harbor sediment as lightweight aggregate
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2008Sediment sampled from Taichung Harbor was mixed with local reservoir sediment at different weight ratios to prepare lightweight aggregate at 1050, 1100, and 1150 degrees C. A pressure of 3000 or 5000 psi was used to shape the powder mixtures into pellets before the heating processes.

In order to reduce the density of concrete for load bearing and stiffening structural members and to improve the thermal insulation properties and thus extend the scope of application for structural lightweight concrete, closed-texture lightweight concretes are required which, while possessing adequate compressive strength, have densities of less than ...

Lightweight aggregates in the U.K.
International Journal of Cement Composites and Lightweight Concrete, 1979Abstract Whilst lightweight aggregates have been used for many years, the development of high quality manufactured lightweight aggregates has been slow due in no small part to the attitude of the producers of the industrial wastes which form the raw materials for much of the modern lightweight aggregate production. This paper gives a brief situation

Abstract Particle characteristics of lightweight aggregates (LWAs) have great influences on the mechanical performance of the corresponding concrete. In this research, particle characteristics of LWAs were measured through digital image processing (DIP), including particle sizes, gradation and shape properties, and the effects of LWA particle ...

Pelletisation of fly ashes as a lightweight aggregate
Advances in Cement Research, 2010This study investigated the use of solid waste fly ash in the production of lightweight concrete. Fly ash is an industrial waste obtained from the coal-fired thermal generating power plant and it is used in the production of additive construction materials. In Turkey more than 15 million tonnes of fly ash is produced each year, but only a small amount

Durability of lightweight concretes with lightweight fly ash aggregates
Construction and Building Materials, 2011Abstract This paper presents the effects of aggregate properties such as strength, porosity, water absorption, bulk density and specific gravity on the strength and durability of lightweight fly ash aggregate concrete (LWAC). The influence of properties of four aggregates (sintered lightweight fly ash aggregates, cold-bonded lightweight fly ash ...

This paper describes the properties of lightweight aggregate concrete consisting of high performance artificial lightweight aggregate. The concrete was developed in order to be used on a rigid frame prestressed concrete bridge with a length of 256m. The concrete had good pumpability, resistance to freezing and thawing action, and high strength.
