Abstract This paper reports an experimental study that aimed to define the parameters for the mix design of structural lightweight self-compacting concrete (LWSCC) incorporating coarse lightweight expanded clay aggregates and natural sand. The starting point was the methodology proposed by Nepomuceno et al.

Influence of Expanded Clay Aggregates in Abrasion Resistance of Lightweight Concrete
SP-253: Fifth ACI/CANMET/IBRACON Int'l Conference on High-Performance Concrete Structures & Materials, 2008Durability is one of the key factors considered in the specification of concrete for most of its applications. When applied to industrial floors, road pavements, and sidewalks, abrasion wearing impairs the concrete performance. This work is focused on the abrasion resistance of lightweight concrete produced with expanded clay, comparing it to the ...

A preliminary research on the properties of lightweight expanded clay aggregate
2019In the present study, lightweight expanded clay aggregates were produced from clay, waste brick powders, albite floatation waste, and coal at various temperatures ranged from 900 °C to 1250 °C. After the production, the physical and microstructural properties of the aggregates were determined.
