Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Simple Modifications for Signed Roots of Likelihood Ratio Statistics
SUMMARY In the context of inference about a scalar parameter in the presence of nuisance parameters, some simple modifications for the signed root of the log-likelihood ratio statistic R are developed that reduce the order of error in the standard normal approximation to the distribution of R from O(n -1/2) to O(n -1).

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Echo Cancellation : the generalized likelihood ratio test for double-talk vs. channel change [PDF]
Echo cancellers are required in both electrical (impedance mismatch) and acoustic (speaker-microphone coupling) applications. One of the main design problems is the control logic for adaptation.

Note: The table reports results from Likelihood ratio tests. The tests were conducted to evaluate the difference between nested models, that is, a more restrictive and a less restrictive model.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Score Statistics for Current Status Data: Comparisons with Likelihood Ratio and Wald Statistics [PDF]
In this paper we introduce three natural ``score statistics" for testing the hypothesis that F(t_0)takes on a fixed value in the context of nonparametric inference with current status data. These three new test statistics have natural interpretations in terms of certain (weighted) L_2 distances, and are also connected to natural ``one-sided" scores. We

Bootstrap and Higher-Order Expansion Validity When Instruments May Be Weak [PDF]
It is well-known that size-adjustments based on Edgeworth expansions for the t-statistic perform poorly when instruments are weakly correlated with the endogenous explanatory variable.

In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.
