Coppice regrowth in a disturbed tropical dry limestone forest in Jamaica

Forest Ecology and Management, 2003
The Hellshire Hills are an extensive area of tropical dry forest over limestone, located on the south coast of Jamaica. Despite being a protected area, they are subject to encroachment and clearance by charcoal burners, leaving a relatively pristine core within more disturbed areas of forest.

Hurricanes, Storm Surge, and Pine Forest Decline on a Low Limestone Island

Estuaries and Coasts, 2019
Hurricanes are a frequent disturbance in the western Atlantic impacting coastal forest structure and persistence. This study addressed the hypothesis that periodic hurricane-associated winds and storm surges can interact with sea-level rise to cause the demise of coastal pine forests, based on the response of the Florida Keys’ last extensive tract of ...

A new Cyrtodactylus (Squamata: Gekkonidae) from Huong Son limestone forest, Hanoi, northern Vietnam

Zootaxa, 2011
We describe a new species of the genus Cyrtodactylus based on two adult specimens from Huong Son limestone forest, Hanoi, Vietnam. Cyrtodactylus huongsonensis sp. nov. is distinguished from the remaining Indochinese bent-toed geckos by a combination of the following characters: medium-sized, with a maximum SVL of 89.8 mm; dorsal pattern consisting of ...

Seasonal Variation in Activity Budget of Assamese Macaques in Limestone Forest of Southwest Guangxi, China

Folia primatologica, 2020
The activity budget is important for understanding behavioural variability and adaptation in primates. Assamese macaques (Macaca assamensis) found in the limestone forest of Guangxi Nonggang National Nature Reserve, Southwest China, primarily feed on ...

Forest seasonality shapes diet of limestone-living rhesus macaques at Nonggang, China

Primates, 2015
Limestone forests are an unusual habitat for primates, but little information is available for the genus Macaca in such habitats, making a comparative understanding of extant limestone primates' behavioral adaptation incomplete. We collected data on the diet of rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) in a limestone habitat at Nonggang Nature Reserve ...

Impact of forest fires on geomorphic processes in the tyrolean limestone alps

Geografiska Annaler: Series A, Physical Geography, 2012
We investigated geomorphic processes on two slopes (Arnspitze and Bettelwurf) burned by wildfire in the region north of Innsbruck. Both burned in 1946 and both are still characterized by severe vegetation destruction. Sparsely grass-covered rock and debris slopes have developed replacing the former dwarf pine (Pinus mugo) shrub stands.

Forest Composition and Structure on Glade-forming Limestones in Middle Tennessee

Castanea, 2012
ABSTRACT Within a successional context, the vegetation associated with the cedar glade ecosystem in middle Tennessee develops from bare limestone bedrock to subclimax redcedar, preclimax oak-hickory, and climax mixed hardwood forests. Studies on the composition and structure of forests associated with cedar glade–forming limestones (Lebanon, Ridley ...

Effect of Group Size on Time Budgets and Ranging Behavior of White-Headed Langurs in Limestone Forest, Southwest China

Folia primatologica, 2019
The ecological constraints model is well supported by data from most frugivorous primates; however, the prediction power of the model is weak for folivorous primates.
