The Cell Cycle is a Limit Cycle [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena, 2012
Progression along the successive phases of the mammalian cell cycle is driven by a network of cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks). This network is regulated by a variety of negative and positive feedback loops. We previously proposed a detailed, 39-variable model for the Cdk network and showed that it is capable of temporal self-organization in the form of

Chemical Systems with Limit Cycles

open access: yesBulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2023
AbstractThe dynamics of a chemical reaction network (CRN) is often modeled under the assumption of mass action kinetics by a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with polynomial right-hand sides that describe the time evolution of concentrations of chemical species involved. Given an arbitrarily large integer $$K \in {\mathbb N}$$

RG LIMIT CYCLES [PDF]

open access: yesPomeranchuk 100, 2014
In this review we consider the concept of limit cycles in the renormalization group flows. The examples of this phenomena in the quantum mechanics and field theory will be presented.

Limit Cycles of AdaBoost

open access: yesCoRR, 2022
The iterative weight update for the AdaBoost machine learning algorithm may be realized as a dynamical map on a probability simplex. When learning a low-dimensional data set this algorithm has a tendency towards cycling behavior, which is the topic of this paper.

LIMIT CYCLE AND CONSERVED DYNAMICS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics B, 2006
We demonstrate here that the potential can coexist with limit cycle in nonlinear dissipative dynamics, where the potential plays the driving role for dynamics and determines the final steady state distribution in a manner similar to other situations in physics.

Friction generated limit cycles [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2001
This paper treats limit cycles caused by friction. The goal has been to explain phenomena that have been observed experimentally in mechatronic systems. Experiments have shown that oscillations of qualitatively different types can be obtained simply by changing controller specifications. Stiction is important in some cases but not in others.

Universal tetramer limit cycle at the unitarity limit

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2023
We demonstrate that a four-boson limit-cycle independent of the Efimov one appears in Hamiltonian systems at the unitary limit. The model interaction contains two-, three- and four-body short-range potentials, which disentangle the interwoven three- and four-boson cycles, for the universal trimer and tetramer energy levels, respectively.
