A Limit Cycle of a Resonant Converter
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2003Abstract We study a piecewise linear system approximating the behavior of a switched DC/DC-converter. We give conditions for a unique limit cycle. The stability of a state space trajectory controlled converter is addressed. The discontinuity curves have been carefully examined with respect to uniqueness of intersecting solutions.

On the Multiplicity of Algebraic Limit Cycles
Journal of Dynamics and Differential Equations, 2012The present paper is devoted to the problem of determining the multiplicity of the unit circle as a periodic orbit of the planar differential system \[ \dot{x}=-y+f(x, y)a(x, y), \;\dot{y}=x+f(x, y)b(x, y), \] where \(f(x, y)=x^2+y^2-1\) and \(a\), \(b\) are real polynomials of the variables \(x\) and \(y\).

Limitations of the describing function for limit cycle prediction
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2002We consider comparator-based nonlinear feedback systems, and use Tsypkin's method to develop a strategy with which to find systems with low-pass linear part for which the describing function technique erroneously predicts limit cycles. We produce an infinite set of examples of systems with very low-pass linear parts for which the describing function ...

On the local stability of limit cycles
Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 1999Orbital stability of limit cycles is the result of the competing local tendencies of perturbations from the cycle to decay (during phases of local stability) and to grow (during phases of local instability), averaged over a cycle. We examine this coexistence of attractive and repulsive phases on limit cycles, including the local rates of expansion and ...

Abelian Integrals and Limit Cycles
Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems, 2011In this survey paper, the author discusses the interconnection of the problem of estimating the number of limit cycles of planar polynomial systems (Hilbert's 16th problem) and the problem of estimating the number of isolated zeros of certain abelian integrals. In the first part of the paper, some basic concepts and methods are introduced.

For nonlinear single-input single-output control systems, the limit cycle amplitude gradients and frequency gradients are derived. They are utilized for adjustments in size in order to satisfy the operating conditions in an industrial application. The linear plant is considered deteriorated by spherical uncertainties.

Revealing the Limitations of the Thermocapacitive Cycle
ACS NanoWhile thermoelectric conversion by a thermocapacitive cycle has been considered a promising green technology for low-grade heat recovery, our study finds that its practical feasibility is overestimated. During thermal charging, the coexistence and dynamic competition between thermal-induced voltage rise and self-discharge lead to the limitations of the
