Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

Orbitwise expansive points

open access: yesApplied General Topology
This study defines an orbitwise expansive point (OE), such as x in a metric space (X,ρ), if there is a number d>0 such that the orbits of a few points inside an arbitrary open sphere will maintain a distance greater than d from the corresponding points ...

Limit Circle/Limit Point Criteria for Second-Order Superlinear Differential Equations with a Damping Term

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
The purpose of the present paper is to establish some new criteria for the classifications of superlinear differential equations as being of the nonlinear limit circle type or of the nonlinear limit point type. The criteria presented here generalize some

Limit‐point/limit‐circle classification for Hain–Lüst type equations [PDF]

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, 2017
AbstractHain–Lüst equations appear in magnetohydrodynamics. They are Sturm–Liouville equations with coefficients depending rationally on the eigenvalue parameter. In this paper such equations are connected with a 2 × 2 system of differential equations, where the dependence on the eigenvalue parameter is linear.

Potential Early Risk Biomarkers for Reduced Forced Expiratory Volume in Children Post‐Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.

The stationary behaviour of fluid limits of reversible processes is concentrated on stationary points

open access: yesNetworks and Heterogeneous Media, 2013
Assume that a stochastic process can be approximated, when some scale parameter gets large, by a fluid limit (also called 'mean field limit', or 'hydrodynamic limit').

Farmers’ perceptions of climate change, long-term variability and trends in rainfall in Apac district, northern Uganda

open access: yesCABI Agriculture and Bioscience, 2022
Background Climate change poses severe threats to smallholder farmers' agricultural livelihoods and food security in Sub Saharan Africa. Understanding long-term rainfall trends of variability and extremes at local scales and perceptions regarding long ...

Evaluating the 6-point Remainder Function Near the Collinear Limit

open access: yes, 2014
The simplicity of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory makes it an ideal theoretical laboratory for developing computational tools, which eventually find their way to QCD applications. In this contribution, we continue the investigation of a recent

Psychosocial Outcomes in Patients With Endocrine Tumor Syndromes: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The combination of disease manifestations, the familial burden, and varying penetrance of endocrine tumor syndromes (ETSs) is unique. This review aimed to portray and summarize available data on psychosocial outcomes in patients with ETSs and explore gaps and opportunities for future research and care.
