Limit-point buckling analyses using solid, shell and solid-shell elements [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2011
In this paper, the recently-developed solid-shell element SHB8PS is used for the analysis of a representative set of popular limit-point buckling benchmark problems. For this purpose, the element has been implemented in Abaqus/Standard finite element software and the modified Riks method was employed as an efficient path-following strategy.

A proposed set of popular limit-point buckling benchmark problems [PDF]

open access: yesStructural Engineering and Mechanics, 2011
Developers of new finite elements or nonlinear solution techniques rely on discriminative benchmark tests drawn from the literature to assess the advantages and drawbacks of new formulations. Buckling benchmark tests provide a rigorous evaluation of finite elements applied to thin structures, and a complete and detailed set of reference results would ...

Limit point buckling of a finite beam on a nonlinear foundation

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2014
In this paper, we consider an imperfect finite beam lying on a nonlinear foundation, whose dimensionless stiffness is reduced from 1 to k as the beam deflection increases.

AN AXIAL STIFFNESS JUDGMENT METHOD FOR LIMIT-POINT BUCKLING OF SPATIAL COMPRESSION MEMBERS

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2016
Limit-point,elastic or elastoplastic, flexural or flexural-torsional buckling of spatial compression members are easy to happen in engineering structures,a simple unified buckling judgment method is need for engineering applications.

Nonlinear Buckling of Fixed Functionally Graded Material Arches Under a Locally Uniformly Distributed Radial Load

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2021
Functionally graded material (FGM) arches may be subjected to a locally radial load and have different material distributions leading to different nonlinear in-plane buckling behavior.

Investigations on the limit-point buckling of curved beams

open access: yesMultidiszciplináris Tudományok, 2023
Calculating the critical load that could lead to beam failure through buckling is a complex issue. This paper intends to analyze the stability of arches taking into account how the curvature, material properties, load positions and geometry affect the behavior.

Nonlinear Instability Behavior and Buckling of Shallow Arches Under Gradient Thermo-Mechanical Loads

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
This paper investigates the nonlinear behavior and buckling of shallow arches under gradient thermal and mechanical loading. The gradient temperature varies continuously along the thickness of the cross section of the arch but uniformly distributes over ...

Nonlinear Buckling and Post-buckling of Shape Memory Alloy Shallow Arches [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics, 2020
In this work, the nonlinear buckling and post-buckling behavior of shallow arches made of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) is investigated. Arches are susceptible to large deflections, due to their slenderness, especially when the external load exceeds the ...

Stability of fixed-fixed shallow arches under arbitrary radial and vertical forces [PDF]

open access: yesИнженерно-строительный журнал, 2020
In the present paper the planar stability of fixed-fixed shallow circular arches is investigated. The arches are made of linearly elastic, functionally graded material and are subject to a concentrated radial or vertical dead force at an arbitrary ...
