An Exposition of the Connection between Limit-Periodic Potentials and Profinite Groups
We classify the hulls of different limit-periodic potentials and show that the hull of a limit-periodic potential is a procyclic group. We describe how limit-periodic potentials can be generated from a procyclic group and answer arising questions.

We provide an informal up-to-date review of the tensor track approach to quantum gravity. In a long introduction we describe in simple terms the motivations for this approach.

Naturalism is often considered to be antithetical to theology and genuine religion. However, in a series of recent books and articles, Willem Drees has proposed a scientifically informed naturalistic account of religion, which, he contends, is not only ...

Flaubert lecteur de romans historiques
Flaubert’s reading notes in his correspondence allow us to identify two types of historical novels: the novel with an ancient subject, which, to be plausible, must keep characters at a distance and limit psychological explanations, and the novel with a ...

Solitons in Seiberg-Witten Theory and D-branes in the Derived Category [PDF]
We analyze the "geometric engineering" limit of a type II string on a suitable Calabi-Yau threefold to obtain an N=2 pure SU(2) gauge theory. The derived category picture together with Pi-stability of B-branes beautifully reproduces the known spectrum of

Discerning the Limits of Religious Naturalism
In response to my “How to Make Naturalism Safe for Supernaturalism: An Evaluation of Willem Drees's Supernaturalistic Naturalism” (Rottschaefer 2001), Willem Drees maintains that I have misunderstood his purpose and views and have failed to make the ...

Precision metrology using weak measurements
Weak values and measurements have been proposed as means to achieve dramatic enhancements in metrology based on the greatly increased range of possible measurement outcomes.

Gravitational Quantum Limit for Length Measurements
We discuss a limit for sensitivity of length measurements which is due to the effect of vacuum fluctuations of gravitational field. This limit is associated with irreducible quantum fluctuations of geodesic distances and it is characterized by a noise ...

The generalized Shockley-Queisser limit for nanostructured solar cells
The Shockley-Queisser limit describes the maximum solar energy conversion efficiency achievable for a particular material and is the standard by which new photovoltaic technologies are compared.
