Today, traffic noise due to cars, trains, and airplanes is the main noise source in urban areas. In accordance with the European Commission’s Green paper on Future Noise Policy, 22% of the European population are exposed to outdoor A-weighted noise levels higher than 65 dB and more than 45% are exposed to levels between 55 and 65 dB.

Limited Resources Limiting Life?
2002The question, “Is death ever preferable to life?” is only meaningful if there can be a choice between life and death. Even if that choice is made, there may be constraints on that preference being satisfied. Limited resources and the need to ration resources are such a constraint on being able to choose life, or satisfy a preference for life.
