Moisture Sources and Synoptic‐Scale Controls on Wet Season Event Rainfall in Mexico City: Evidence From Stable Isotopes

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 3, March 2026.
Precipitation stable isotopes, combined with backward air mass trajectories and synoptic meteorology analyses, revealed that rainfall in Mexico City is primarily originated from the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and continental regions, modulated by troughs and tropical waves. Event‐scale rainfall showed strong variability in isotope compositions, with

Coupling Parsivel2 Measured Raindrop Size Distributions and Fall Velocity Estimates to Characterise Rainfall Simulators

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study characterises drip‐type and pressurised rainfall simulators using photographic, disdrometric and empirical fall‐velocity approaches. Results show that the Parsivel2 optical disdrometer systematically underestimates raindrop fall velocity for both simulator types.

Fecal pellet packaging enhances marine carbon sequestration

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Fecal pellets produced by marine zooplankton contribute substantially to transporting biologically fixed carbon from the sunlit sea surface into deeper water layers. Their occurrence and composition are often heterogeneous, and pellets may undergo various changes while sinking, making it difficult to quantitatively assess their mechanisms of ...

High nitrogen fixation and Braarudosphaera presence in the North Sea

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Nitrogen fixation, the microbial conversion of dinitrogen gas to ammonia, is a key nitrogen source and critical for sustaining marine productivity. We investigated the diversity and activity of nitrogen‐fixers in surface waters of the North Sea and Norwegian coast during July 2023.

Zooplankton in the temperate ocean display strong ties to pico‐plankton and seasonally variable trophic roles

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Trophic connections between the food web base and zooplankton affect the structure of marine food webs and fluxes to higher predators. The food that zooplankton consume shifts in response to prey resources, but specific zooplankton trophic sources remain unresolved over the dynamic seasonal cycle for many species.
